Having 2 Cmdrs.

This is what I do to be able to run more than one account on the same pc at the same time.

Locate your ED folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier and copy to a temporary location.
Open the folder and launch the launcher, Select options and (If not already) Log out machine.
Move the folder to it’s final location, Rename folder, open the launcher and log in as you normally would, ensure to select remember password , Verify and create a new shortcut.

To run both simultaneously, Log in one account, close the launcher and log in the other.
Play with settings to find your computers optimal running conditions.
I run 4 comfortably at 1024 x 720 windowed with the lowest setting possible.

Wait what? You run 4 copies at the same time? Why?

If you could have two CMDRs sharing the same ships, engineer access, and bank account, that'd be awesome.

You already can, well, sort of. It is just that the Commanders would literally share everything, including the callsign, and the pilot seat of your current ship.

Go to Holo Me and save a diffferent look. You can now switch freely between them, even though this would most probably be useful for roleplaying purposes only, such as for screenshots.

The reason I started doing it in 3301 was to prove the idea of what is now known as tea-bagging.
As it was always difficult to liaise with others to try something out, I bought another account to test whether it was quicker for Cmdr's to fill a large ship with Heike tea and then transport it once to Bast, Or whether it was quicker for those same Cmdr's to buy the limit and go with the small amount etc. (See Sig)

The 4+ came about because our group started a trade hub for all the non-purchasable requirements for engineers & engineer recipe's, Painite, Articulation motors, etc which requires storage and collecting Vast quantities of Palladium. As with all these things, I became the only one available to do the trades and developed the ability to control more than one ship collecting and dispensing commodities.

64 limpets and 7 ships was my best:cool:

Getting caught in a heist by Code was the worst[mad]

Since ED is currently on sale, I'm very tempted to buy 1 or more additional PC accounts; I have an account on my Xbox but can't get into it without my cockpit setup. On the other hand I'm not finding the time needed to play as much lately so additional accounts could go to waste. When I do have some free time I end up playing ESO with my wife, she doesn't care for ED.

I expect I'll create additional accounts someday, I have 4 extra email accounts just for the purpose.

Edited to Add: I couldn't help myself and bought a 2nd copy of the base game and Horizons season pass. Didn't feel the need to spend another $1.50 for a number of skins I might not like or want.

That’s not entirely accurate. It requires more than one Xbox account.

This is true but the extra accounts can be an Xbox Live Silver level which is free. That does require that those extra accounts can only be used on the "Home" machine that has a Gold level membership.

I use 2 windows 7 accounts. The only disadvantage is that I have to download ED and the updates for each account.

I'd like to have one cmdr for exploring, and another for running around the bubble with a player group. Is there a reasonably easy way to have 2 copies of ED and 2 separate Cmdrs? I have the second software key already. I'm not sure if I should register using the same email address. How would I switch between them?

I would ideally like to be able to play either account from either of 2 computers.

I have two accounts under different (but similar) email addresses.
These install separately, I have two launchers on my desktop toolbar, one for each account. You have to close the launcher before you can open the other launcher though as you can only have one launcher open.

I can run both accounts at the same time on my two monitors with a gtx 980Ti card... Very handy for getting the second account up to speed quickly. My main account is mostly for bubble stuff, the other is out in Colonia atm, but I'll probably fly back as the 3.0 engineers look like they will be a noticeable improvement over the 2.4 builds I have.

Btw, ED Engineer and ED Discovery both support multiple accounts, you just switch in each app as needed. Remember to setup a separate EDSM account with its own API key as well!

Damn. Have some rep. And I though I was badass when I left the xbox on route to Hutton and used the PC to bounty hunt.

Yeah. What I was really hoping for was the ability to do some exploring without having to leave everything in the bubble behind.

I run two game accounts and start each from it's own windows user. By copying the original installation folder, then deleting Win64 and symlinking Win64 from the original installation folder in it's place, the second installation folder is only 500MB in size and updates to the original should be reflected in the second (for data updates at least).

It's possible to symlink more stuff too, to reduce the overhead even further.

I start my second account from a shortcut via the following:

runas /user:secondWindowsUser /savecred "Path-to-second-EDlaunch.exe"

This pops a console window the first time asking for the password to secondWindowsUser and saves it for the future so you don't need to enter it again.

Each account has entirely separate settings and logs.
