Newcomer / Intro Having trouble with gateways

Hello all, just started playing, took a contract to delivery goods to Aristotle gateway, but I can't seem to contact or even get close.
Arrive in the system go to the planet it is above but it won't let me get close, just stays as that blue dot, as I shoot past :( can't slow the ship down under 30km/s say safe disengage ready but can't seem to use that.
read some place that it's the C key but nothing happens.
Any help would be nice :)

Try the travel tutorial, it's in the menu where START is, helped me a lot because it tells yo uexactly what to do and what to press when
