Heat sink auto fire

Is this a thing? I'm currently testing out my new AspX exploration build, and I have already lost all 3 heat sinks due to seemingly random auto fires. Are these supposed to auto fire when taking heat damage? It seems more random than that. Is there a setting I can turn off? I don't even have them bound to a FG, just to the H key, and I swear I was nowhere near it when they fired.

Do you have voice attack? Is anything in there set to trigger them? Try changing your bind from H to something else to see if it stops it from happening.

Heat sinks will only auto fire when damaged, not sure if it works like other modules, malfunctions occur below 80% damage.

when multi crew came out, i thought i was being ganked by the cmdr's joining my ship, as it turned out it was my politeness all along, my H key was for heatsinks and my C key was for a SCB, so saying "Hi Cmdr" was a real problem.

What?! Keybinds still work while typing in the com window? That's dumb. Maybe that's what's happening. Will check.

OH KOOL I carry heat sinks and now and then I can just be sitting rebuilding shield gen and a heat sink fires. I have been very curious about this. I'll have to keep a better eye on things but in the ship I'm flying I don't believe I had any damage get past the shields.

Ummm......this is awkward for me then. If this happens to me, bad things could happen. I am out in the black exploring, and I heard something about HS synthesis, but that one of the mats needed is only found in the bubble, and I bet I don't have it.

I have had heatsinks fire when swapping between fire groups that have HS in them. So I never assign heatsinks to a group any more and I have a key on the other side of my keyboard that fires them. Much quicker than flipping through my groups in an emergency anyway.

Easiest thing is to assign a hotkey for it (in options). Even better if you can macro it for chained firing, i.e. on my SCB/HS ships I just have everything assigned to F4... one or two SCBs and a heat sink fired with one keystroke. Works quite well.

(...and I totally skimmed your post :) )

I think my hotkey is "v" Makes sense, as it is a way to vent a bunch of heat. C is chaff, and b is SCBs.
same here!
Until you work out what is causing it, you can power down all but one heat sink launcher so that your losses will be reduced if it happens. I normally do this anyway, as I don't have a reason to launch more than one at a time and it saves a little on power.
IIRC from the beta, heat sink synthesis requires (amongst other things) Basic Conductors, which have been removed from the live build as mission rewards since they were not used in any blueprints... . I'm not sure if they can be found in signal sources so it seems like stocking up in advance might not be possible - I just hope they get put back in as mission rewards with the launch of 2.4. Not that it will help me - I'm 20KLY from Sol and might not be returning to port for months (I have been out for six weeks and have not yet touched my stock of heat sinks but would hate to lose any to a bug).

Which flight stick do you use. I have had issues with both Saitek x55 and x56 Rhino seemingly issuing random commands resulting in fired heat sinks, silent running activating mid combat and other mirth inducing activities. I was advised not to use usb3 ports with flight sticks and whilst this worked for a time the issue has returned. Could you be experiencing something similar?

We're not aware of any issues with hotkeys firing while typing in the comms panel, but this is worth investigating nonetheless. If you manage to find out the cause (or even if you don't) please drop a report on the Bug Reports forum so that our QA team can investigate the issue further :)

I have this problem. every time I turn on bandwidth monitor (ctrl+b) it pops a heatsink... because it's bound to B.
Annoying to say the least.

I use KBAM, so that's not an issue.

Posting to bookmark. Now You mentioned it, I also have it auto-fire recently (cca last 2 weeks IIRC). Will pay attention.
