No, I'd much rather play online in a single continuous universe (in open mp mode). What the OP is suggesting is regressive on so many levels. As someone who looks forward to playing this fully online I expect the peer-to-peer instances to deliver a good experience, and who knows they might bump up the instance player limit over time, although 32 players within scanner range of each other is already very promising multiplayer-wise. I trust Frontier is always looking to expand the scope of the game, as long as it makes sense.

I could swear you meant to say you were going to find a bottle of coke, I thought everyone had a bottle of JD stashed away somewhere.......

oh and back again, no, no, no, no. I'm not going to reiterate (too much) what everyone who is in the same camp as me has said so far, but more online options would fragment the community to the point that it would likely be impossible to find people to play with/against, it would either have to A. Stay as it is now or B. Go completely server hosted and have a subscription, Option B. would likely drive me away from the game tbh as we have been told there will be no further fees outside of expansions and the odd cosmetic purchase, and no one likes a company that goes back on it's word.

The game's appeal relies heavily on player-driven clans (called organisations or for short, orgs) and their alliances and rivalries. So exactly the opposite from Elite Dangerous.

My point was it doesn't do any of that, at all, any, zip. ED on the other hand does plenty.

wow, this is a bigger land slide result than John Major vs Tony Blair in 1997!

probably about the same turnout as the average UK election as well ;)

It becomes more and more evident that ppl who want a Space Sim w/ MMO features, such as guilds and competitive PvP, have to migrate to Star Citizen which is tailor-made for that.

By late 2016 Star Citizen may have those features you listed (I backed it too), with all it's modules and persistent universe implemented together:
Star Citizen
Approximate date: End 2016.[3][33][34][35]
Star Citizen will feature a persistent universe. [36]

Until then I'll be playing ED and enjoying its feature list expand through the DDF and beyond

I did, but it's gone missing :S

I think you'll find most people also prefer option A as well. I was watching a talk David Braben did at one of the conventions, and even he stated very clearly, that after considering the MMO style subscription method, they decided it wasn't in THEIR game's best interests.

I would love an Elite Dangerous MMORPG.. actually, what I really want is a first petson / cockpit view / VR mode / human avatar for EvE online.

Since CCP doesn't have that, nor are their plans to implement that... :/

Kind of sucks, seeing how I have every skill even remotely related to flying a Pilgrim at level 5.

I'm entirely confused, I'm new to the forums but have been playing since Beta 1.

Why is there even a discussion about a paid online mode? Is it not clear that the game is a pay once, get everything deal? If there was even the slightest hint of a subscription I would've forgotten entirely about this game.

Why is there this so called demand for a subscription? What is wrong with the game not being sub-based?

In general, why is this question constantly being asked?

This isn't Eve online

Complain to CCP, not Frontier.

The problem with subscriptions is they are usually set such that you pay the full price of the game again every year and so to me subscription games always seem extremely expensive even when taking server costs into consideration.

You're 100% correct. I also agree with you.

The reason for this thread, and all the others, is because there is a contingent of players that want to turn ED into their vision of Eve online or something like it. I've been yelled at before for making such statements, but they are most probably, people who became disenchanted with Eve and other MMO's, or may have been banned from Eve for bad behavior **ducks**, or just haven't gotten it that Frontier is not going to make such a game, never planned to, and never will. But they have hope that they can sway Frontier at this late date, although it's a pipedream.

Let the flaming begin.

Completely off topic, but I laughed so hard at this part

Back on topic, humans, people, not-so-humans. Any sane developer knows that whilst listening to your community, you should also entirely ignore it!
The best feedback you can get from a massive community is probably bug reporting with a side of balance issues (even then, that's questionable) a decision such as business model is never, ever going to be chosen because the community said to do it.

That is all! I'll join you with the JD, maybe not so much the laps around the chair

I really love this game, but its a single player game, unless you want to PVP there is no reason what so ever to play in open mode. Its my opinion that it will limit the amount of time people stay interested in playing. As far as splitting the community, its already split, those that want a gank fest and those that don't. Maybe its better this way, PVPers can fly around killing each other in open while Care Bears go about peacefully in solo until money to maintain the servers runs out, then everyone's screwed.

It's the perceived weakness of P2P in regards to multiplayer. This poll was poorly worded and I think it affected the result (but not massively). The suggestion was to have a subscription based model alongside everything else so that game play types that would benefit from a client server model would be more available. The server model costs more to maintain so the subscription is required to maintain them whereas the P2P model is comparatively cheap to maintain so enables the pay once mode with smaller ongoing costs for content packs and vanity items.

Part of people's issue is a perception that someone asking for server based is only after PvP. While that is true for some, others are keen so that large co-op events could be more easily supported.

Even if 12% of the player base was willing to subscribe (based on the results at the time of writing) that would be a substantial ongoing revenue stream for FD.

I voted for it providing it didn't remove any other playing modes which is the same as what the OP suggested. I do wonder why people are so vehemently opposed to an idea that would not affect the current playing modes, adds choice, and is not a requirement for anyone.

Then again plenty of people hated the price of ship skins and that didn't affect their games nor was it a requirement to play.

Hope this answers your question.
