Newcomer / Intro Hello all, new old (51) guy here :)

I'm not quite sure how you managed to get over a myriad of systems visited (are on Marx's list, btw?), and not get Elite explorer :) :D

Maybe the 178 insurance claims has something to do with it ;)

Keep on ing about in the srv; it's always fun seeing what you've been up to! :)

Sounds like for the PC profile I'll need to work for a Krait and kit it up.
It is relatively easy to build a PvE combat worthy Krait. You should have G5 dirty/drag drives, a decent shield with balanced resistances, maybe some SCBs (stock will do fine) and weapons that do not eat too much energy. It flies best with 4 pips to ENG. Add a charge enhanced distributor for perma boost ability, and you're good to go

Hull/module reinforcements are optional as long as you don't let the shields drop. It can be made quite tanky if you stuff it with reinforcements, but gets a little bit heavy then.

Once you go to town with combat, feel free to ask myself or the A.R.C. for any training, escorted RES practice or whatever assistance you may need ;)

Good stuff Hans, thanks! I built a nice Krait on the Xbox profile (well, two MkII's and a Phantom that's just for Exploration) and I do like your ideas!

On the Xbox, I hopped into the FDL (all multicannons) and forgot what a cheese grater that thing can be on small and medium foes LOL It was hoot, especially vaporizing Sideys. Well, it'was a 'slow' Res for a High one, but I did tick up from 19% to 25% on Combat/Expert LOL.

(Thread title updated from 'Hello all, new old guy (51) here :)

I'd like to start by thanking this community and it's wonderfully informative posts/members for helping me get a start on this game.

I've been playing on Xbox One X for several weeks now and I've become a bit of an addict....I'm even making this post from work on my lunch hour lol.

Thanks also to several great youtubers out there that have helped me sort this game out. It's been said a lot, but this game has a pretty blunt learning curve for the unitiated, and a big dose of how do I start, what do I want to do???

So, I've been reading a lot here, especially in this Newcomers Forum, as well as just googling my questions and follow the links to discussions here or reddit.

Started with my Sidewinder of course, and did some really basic things like data runs to start and earn money and experience, get used to flying and landing/docking. The tutorial/trainers in the game are excellent for letting you taste a bit of mining, fighting, SRV useage, etc and so can help one decide what one might want to focus on for awhile.

Then I went to Brani and did some RES work to start earning that money! Over the course of that, I continued to learn more, and take side trips and do other things. I'd like to focus on exploration. I also really enjoy 'bussing' in my Dolphin (which I'm doing at LQ Hydrae/Rhea) a LOT.

I have a plan that my next ship will be an Asp X that's kitted out for exploration (love that program that lets you tinker with that BTW (EDIT: Coriolis), do that and odd hauls for a bit, with bussing in my Dolphin mixed in. Then I will work for an Orca so I have a BIGGER bus (but stop there, no Beluga for me). Eventually get a Conda for extreme exploration and multipurpose but that's a long way down the line from where I am.

EDIT, 5-10-2018: Okay I may have literally SAID I don't want a Beluga, but I didn't literally MEAN it. It's happening a ship or two from now LOL

Anyway, thank you again to everyone here and all those wonderful and inspiring youtubes. Thank goodness for the internet with a game this deep and steep! :)

Bit about me: I'm 51, work in customer service, have 5 kids (all grown), love movies and videogames (still a 22 year old inside), love sci-fi and am fascinated by space. Too bad I can't math or I would have gone into astronomy.

One more sidenote then I'll shuddup for this post! I was flying from 64 Arteris (sp?) last night and dropped out of FSD in front of a neutron star; about crapped my pants!

Hello, new guy.

Thank you John!

Update on the status of the fleet, and why I love 'living' at Jameson Memorial.

After getting back from those exploration trips, and already owning the big ships I want, I noticed I was just a few ships from an Xbox achievement for owning 20 at one time. Why not?

So, added the following to the garage....not all will actually get used much:

--T6
--T7
--Imperial Eagle

and prior to that, I did add a Vulture as well.

I did load up that Eagle and do some remote engineering on a few systems, and man that thing really zips! Actually a beautiful little ship, and it's fun in combat but the S hardpoints (put small beams there) can be a little tricky to bring to bear in a dogfight when pitching as they are under the ship.

Thought I had a Fed Gunship but I don't....might sell one of those transports and get a DakkaWagon, but the FDL does that so well, and the Vette for even harder work. We'll see.

I love Jameson so much because it's great to buy ships and not have to figure out where to go for the damn modules LOL. Nice just to able to get your hull and load up in one place...much more relaxing! It's an earned right, but certainly worth working for and once you get to a certain point money is not a problem (so the Li discount becomes much less important).

Got a Federal Gunship and it's a fun, full-on tank of a ship. Big and brawny, very hull-tanky the way I've got it set up.

Spaceman Si, thanks for the link for the exploration list. I love that you can get a patch on these boards for this kind of thing, very cool!

Xbox profile....did the rank grind for the Empire to Baron, and got my Clipper today :) She's really pretty just in those stock colors. Think I'll use that for sightseeing expeditions, along with the Orca.

I may get a Cutter but i just honestly don't know what I'd use it for. I'll pick up a Courier too cuz why not? LOL

Thank to Down to Earth Astronomy for his video that made the rank grind just super easy for me:

I flew the Clipper (named Yankee Clipper, being a Yank and all...terribly original) down to Ceos/Sothis for some Sirius Atmospherics sightseeing trips. Sadly this seems the only reliable passenger hauling grind left as the Rhea/LQ Hydrae one has pretty much rendered my Beluga useless at this point. Just no passenger stacking like there used to be so she flies pretty light on that run now.

May have figured out what to use a Cutter for, so I'm working towards that now. I think to play to her strengths she'd make a fine armed trader ship. Interdict me...go ahead LOL. So that will be a fun build that will take a while to engineer.
