Help, how do you land

Dear community, i recently paid for this game on the xbone, and now i cannot even figure out how to land. i have tried lining up the ship with the landing gear out, and resting it on the allocated pad, but to no effect. This is clearly a pc port, and to be honest with you unless someone can help me with the basics, i really can't see me wasting any more time on it, thanks! John.

ps isn't there an easy way to land automated?!??

Make sure you're facing the way the arrows indicate. There's an autodocking module you can buy, I haven't used it but I believe others have talked about it.

It takes a wee bit of practice to get it right but just make sure you're at the correct pad, facing the right way(internally if it's a large station), Fly yourself over the pad(making sure your landing gear is out), lower yourself down slowly by pulling the right stick down.

As you get close enough to the landing pad your radar will change to show your position over the pad, just gently lower yourself into the centre, the middle circles will start to turn blue as you get into the right position then the station will lock you in place.

Once you've done this a few times you'll be doing it with only the occasional embarrassing crash ;)

Here's a trick that helps: remember you are not in an airplane! You do not need to follow a "glide path" to the pad.
Fly straight up over it, then point your nose down like you're a great big lawn-dart. Then roll until you've got the right attitude (align with the arrow) then pull your nose up while bursting down on your attitude jets. Presto!

<nods> Aye!

Your ship should always be facing forward(away from you) in the landing hud. It won't allow you to land backwards but the first thing it does is turn you around......

You need your ship to be facing in the direction of the arrows that appear in the centre of your HUD when you are low enough. It isn't rocket science.

Remember to ask permission to land first. Go to the contacts page, highlight the station, hit a and request docking. Then follow what the others said.

Make sure to play through the tutorials they teach all these basic's and this game will eat you alive if you dont spend the time to play them.

The takeoff/landing tutorial is OK. Once you're low enough, you'll see a series of concentric circles:
(a). You must be facing "forwards", i.e. looking at the rear of your ship on the landing radar. The landing pad number should be in front of your cockpit.
(b). You must be roughly in the centre of the circles. Each axis lights up blue as you align, and when you're in the centre, the whole landing radar goes blue.
(c). Once you've done that, gentle downthrust until the get locked by the pad.

The most common mistake, especially on outposts, is to be facing the wrong way! If moving your ship "forwards" makes it come towards you on the radar, spin 180 degrees and try again! :)

It's quite technical, but once you've done it 4 or 5 times, you'll forget it was ever tricky. After 20 times, you'll be doing "land on a sixpence" zooms onto the pad with 9:20 showing on the clock.

I struggled with this. I'm kind of echoing what everyone else has said, but make sure you're pointing the right way, you should (normally) be facing some buildings. If you see a ramp then you're pointing the wrong way. I've found that approaching the pad as you would in an aircraft is actually the easiest. Finding the right pad is the hardest bit. Especially in the larger stations where you could be right under the entrance.

Once you've passed the "letterbox", your radar will show you where your pad is. :) The circle with the blue dot. If it's close to the entrance, the dot will be right off to one side.
