Help! I messed up!

Hey, guys!
I’m new to the game and I think I might have made a mistake.

I got a messege from Tom "The Blaster" Mcquinn, saying to come to him to get new weapons for my ship. So I charted a route in my galaxy map and started jumping away. After a few jumps, I ended up at Yang Hub for refueling. The problem is I got a messege sayinh that my Pilots Federation Permit has now been revoked. Now I can’t get to the area around Dromi, Sharur and Matet. And the area I am in now requires Expert Rank!!! I’m still at starting Rank! Is there any way I can get the Permit back, so I can get back to the starting areas?

Damn….

But won’t the missions be too difficult, considering my Rank and the ship/equipment I have? Not to mention all the stuff I havent’t learned yet?

Best you learn then. And that's best done at the helm.
Blaze your own trail.
Combat
Mining
Hauling
Smuggling
Whatever you do. You decide.

Quick ingots of savvyness

1) kgbfoam (stars you can fuel scoop)
2) don't fly without a rebuy
3) don't forget limpets

Fleet carriers are over rated!
But at least elite is actually out and doesn't have a 500 mil tab

You will be able to find the same kind of missions, for the same ranks, as in the starter area. Just... read the mission description. Because you will also be able to find missions that would have recommended "Elite" rank. Usually for some reason. There will be nothing stopping you from accepting such missions - just a few guys trying to prevent you from completing them.
And since you needed to earn at least 15 bounty vouchers to receive the invitation from Todd, you have no reason to be nervous - you know how to handle your ship in a fight.

Thanks! That makes me feel alot more confident! I guess I’ll keep at it then, and not reset the character. Didn’t really want to do that anyway.

Just be careful...don't rush.. take your time. Think. Read carefully. It's all there.
Your ship will not withstand an attack from hard-core pirate Lords.
Pick missions with that in mind. Course once your ship of choice is engineered!! Thats another story.

Yep, what Dragsham said :) Follow that advice and you'll fare all dandy. Welcome to the rest of the galaxy, Commander.
The beginner systems really just protecting you from other players tearing your Sidewinder apart the moment you depart from a station, other than that you're in for much of the same experience. Remember there's no shame in using Private Groups and Solo modes at any time, if you feel like you might venture into an unsafe system!
If you're looking at missions for "required rank" just remember those are merely suggestions, and pretty high for no reason.

Thank you!

I didn’t know that required ranks are just suggestions. I though I couldn’t do the mission(or would get smoked if I tried) when the required rank was too high. I’ll make sure I take my time and try to figure stuff out before attempting the really challanging missions!

A fuel scoop and an extra fuel tank can help on 'long' trips. The fuel scoop is kinda necessary to refuel from stars of type's kgbfoam. The extra fuel tank can really help the small ships, like the Sidewinder (Sidey). I did that with my original loaned Sidey from the pilots federation when I followed 'the road to riches' list of valuable planets to scan. In the starter zone or out the missions are almost the same and there for the taking. But much better ships and modules and options outside of the starter zone. Welcome to the rest of the galaxy.

NEVER fly without a rebuy. Which means if you have a million bucks, and want to buy and outfit a new ship, leave enough money left over to repurchase (rebuy) your new ship, 3x or 4x or 5x... The rebuy price is a much smaller amount of the cost of the ship you are currently flying and all of it's modules.

And as above, whether you fly in Open, Solo or Private Group that is your choice, and do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

And have fun.

You can erase your progress, reset your CMDR account and start again. But you really don't need to be expert, as long as you stay in reasonably lawful systems, anyway the enemy ships' difficulty/rank ratings are always geared to your current rank, if it's Harmless you won't face Elite NPC pilots.

The starter permit systems are really limited on ship types to buy and equipment modules for outfitting them, you're better off in other systems once you know the basic controls.

Those are some great tips, thank you!

LOL!

I remember when I did that back in April when I first started and I panicked. It's the beginning, not the end. I envy all you have ahead of you. Welcome to the best game on the planet!
