Help! I messed up!

Thanks again! Also, it just occured to me: Can I transfer my modules from one ship to a new one? Or do I have to outfit my new ship from scratch every time?
You can transfer any optional modules that fit in a new ship, by first taking them off your old ship, from where it goes into module storage at the station you're docked at.
(For example, a class three module will go in a class three or four slot etc, but not in a class two slot etc)...

Also, be sure to pay attention to the weight and power requirements of any module you transfer or buy.

You CAN transfer core modules, but not without buying new ones to put in the "donor" ship, though any new ship will come with core modules already, which you might want to replace anyway...

Certain ships are easier to switch between because they use mostly the same module slots, the Cobra iii with the Viper IV, the Python with the Krait and the Anaconda with the Corvette etc.

Also, not every station has every module, meaning you'll likely have to visit multiple stations to outfit ships the way you like

All in, it's another thing you have to experiment with, anyway happy trails! 😀

Technically correct - but you can always replace the core modules in a ship you're going to dump with E rated ones. Those are even available if the station shows "no stock" for the corresponding slot.
Otherwise - yes. You can store or sell modules at any time. The modules get stored at the station you are right then, but you can transfer them to any other station you are at that time. For a fee, and with some delay time.
But storing unengineered modules is pretty much a waste of time and storage space in most cases, as you get the full amount of Credits back when you sell a module (but only 80% for modules mounted in a ship at the point of sale).

CMDR, did you make it off to see The Blaster? The wonderful Blaster of Todd's?
No, I decided to wait until I have a ship with longer jump range and more fuel. So the last few sessions, I’ve been flying around in a system called Lengi, doing currier, massacre and assassination missions to get some money. Might do some mining as well. I currently have 3,3 million CR and managed to increase my combat rank to Mostly Harmless.

What ship are you in now? A really good early ship is the Cobra mk 3 - It's a great all rounder. I still fly them when they are the right tool for the job (I was flying one just a few days ago). I've calculated the price of an entry level, slightly upgraded cobra. It can be upgraded more as your funds increase.

I've tried to keep the example below affordable, and simple.

Cobra Mk 3, 4C Frame shift drive, 3A power plant, 3D Power distributor, 4C fuel scoop, 4C Bi-Weave shields. come in at about 1.4Mcr. You would need to add more modules such as cargo racks etc. to suit your needs. With just those upgrades the ship has 15Ly jump range.

Notes: The power plant might not be able to support too many more modules that need power (on top of the upgrades that I suggested), there is some headroom there though. If upprading power plant, ALWAYS A rate it (4A power pant adds just over 1Mcr to the price!).
Upgrade Frame shift drive (FSD) to 4A when funds allow (expensive, but in the above example would make jump range >23Ly)
Upgrade scoop to 4B then 4A as funds allow (expensive)
Life support and Sensors can go to 3D. (Helps a bit with jump range, cheap)

You might get invitations from Engineers at some point. It's not worth engineering your FSD until you get the 4A FSD.

And yes, the Cobra, will handle a fuel scoop well (with the above or better upgrades.)

Thanks! That looks like some really great advice! I’m currently in a Viper Mk III. I’ll definently check out the Cobra!

Don’t worry about it. Fear Nothing! Make everyone fear YOU! Make this game truly Elite DANGEROUS!

Never mind. You got the point. You’ll be fine.

Yes, the Cobra III has a whole new lease of life thanks to Odyssey missions. I had been using my Python a lot recently since it has better shield strength, but the Cobra is just so agile and useful in and outside settlements and at crash sites where terrain is too rough for all but small ships to land easily. So I've been using the Cobra about 3/4 of the time now.
