Help, I need Ship Rats!

Ah ok, I was expecting it on the Galnet website, but in-game makes more sense given the minor nature of the situation.

(Apologies to the two commanders at Praea, my game crashed out as soon as the SRV was deployed!)

Gravatonic Waves causing systemic ship systems failures. We warned you!

EDIT: Don't be surprised if after being exposed to the Polarized Water Molecules that you don't find yourself dressed in in the shower. OK Sci Fi fans spot the reference.

Ongoing instancing issues unfortunately, a few of us have had success by dropping GFX settings to 'low', not ideal, but if it means we can all have a crash free game.....

Great to hear its daylight, praise the sun! \o/
And many thanks for hunting down the news Havalok :)

Oh hey Peregrinus, if you have some time to play the next two days let me know at which time Dangerous time zone, its weekend so I'm much more flexible as to when I can play!

Will be going online soon, 10-15 minutes or so!

The promised pictures from yesterday:

View straight down from the top of the canyon (spotting them without their lights is near impossible)

gracefully boarding the Anaconda (first time, when we tried the stairs). Looked really great with Drake coming longside to the "pier"

Oh no, Bomba is falling

No screenshots during the crossing of the Valley of the Drake, but I got the final leap

You'll have to endure my presence this evening again, since unfortunately our faction hasn't surfaced. So I won't come back with new supplies as soon as planned, but at least I can stay with you guys and hopefully see Bomba reach higher grounds.

Greeting from the Plateau of Hope

As you can see from the shadows the sun is high in the sky, so the lighting conditions couldn't be better for the next stage.
Nice shot, I see much better than earlier today :)

Update on the GalNet article it was published locally in the Big Three.

Per Ian..."Ah, sorry - I was going to publish it in Praea Euq GK-Y b30-0 until I realised it didn't have any starports!

Your story has been published in Alioth, Achenar and Sol."

I'll try to get one and get a screen cap. Hmm I think Achenar is closest. Do you think "Admiral" Petraeus will put aside his dislike of me long enough for me to get a news paper?
Maybe if you ask him very nicely ;)
It will be cool to see yor story in the GALNET thought :)

Nice screens shots & awesome catching Bomba before he fell to far down! :)

I decided to trot along to Praea Euq to check this out for myself!

Anyway - upon arriving I needed to find the general area.

Comparing with Flankhard's map:
UZSCDXT.jpg

Yep, found the general area.

I landed on the surface, near one of the cliffs of those huge canyons. I got out into my SRV, and just had a pootle around. Started following a signal on the scanner.

I had prophesied to other commanders that this canyon would turn into a trap to draw other SRVs in! And before you could say 'self fulfilling prophecy' I realised that the level ground had been sloping evermore downwards and I was driving at nearly vertical downwards!

wilson2.png

Crippens! I skidded a 180, and came to a halt. Then started sliding backwards. I hit full throttle, and with lots of wheel skidding and a squeal from the engines, I slowly started to make it back up the incline! Phew that was close!

On this side of the canyon, the sides don't end in a sheer cliff, they drop down in an increasing incline.

Down there somewhere in that black canyon is where the tea party was.
wilson3.png

Just like when I had a car, bad habit of leaving it parked with the headlights on! :D

wilson4.png

Curiosity gets the better of me and I go down into the canyons to 'have a look'.

These narrow canyons are no place for a clipper!

wilson5.png

I find somewhere, near the bottom, to land.

I'm expecting to see Gollum down here!

wilson6.png

In the SRV at the 'bottom' of the canyon. No it's not the bottom. What I thought was the bottom of the canyon is actually a a long way from the bottom! I just daren't go any further!
wilson8.png
(DO NOT DISMISS SHIP DO NOT DISMISS SHIP DO NOT DISMISS SHIP DO NOT DISMISS SHIP)

At last some company! Peregrinus turns up in his DBX! Can't see anything. Not the blackness of space (it's quite light up there) but the utter blackness of a deep dark canyon. I'm just following him, blindly, hence the shields starting to go. And I'm about 4 times wider than him!
wilson9.png

The Plateau of Hope:

We scouted the plateau of hope, and Peregrinus found a hole. Here is the topography of the plateau along with the hole. (Hint, deploying your landing gear will give you a topographical display on your radar :) )

wilson11.png

While I landed on top of the Plateau of Hope to act as a signpost Peregrinus and Cajun delved into the depths beyond the plateau. On the scanner, they are actually ahead of me to the front - but they are 2 or 3 kilometres, and falling, beneath where I am landed! It was rather odd to watch their squares drop 'downwards' on the scanner, and just keep going until they dropped right off! It's then really difficult to navigate back to them because the ground scanner isn't designed for 3d flight like this and it lies to you, and flies you into canyon walls and upsets your sense of direction!

wilson10.png

Nice work Peregrinus. The DBS's compact form is ideal for scouting those narrow pathways between the sheer cliffs. Still a lot to get through before the intersection. With those jagged outcroppings all through the main canyon, I'm thinking we should name it Snaggletooth Canyon. :)

I went in the Clipper - not the most appropriate ship for the job - terrible jump range and big jug ears!

I was following Peregrinus in his DBX and Cajun in his AspEx through the narrow valleys with their sharp pointy edges and sudden cliffs and drops, and while they were okay I had only one ring of shields left! Lots of bumping and grinding along the canyon walls where it gets real narrow and tight!

OK GalNet!
Man the Empire's Security sure is shoddy. Flew into the heart of Achenar, one of their largest stations, with my Pirate Paintjob and a forged Permit and they never even noticed. 240 Lys there and back and I never got interdicted till I was one jump from home and that was by a Bounty Hunter! He go BOOM!

Heh. Heh I did dump 10 Ts of Biowaste in the middle of Bell Terminal. Maybe next time they'll send some help.

I appear to be stranded on the plateau in my SRV... hmmm...

I think I may have to come and join the party a little bit later today! I assume you're still there?

Yeah I was thinking the same, except I'd probably end up needing rescuing myself!

*sigh*

(Immersion breaking bit) I'm stuck in my own solo game, as I can't instance in an SRV with other commanders without my exe crashing, so can't even drive around with you all! Have raised a support ticket to get back to my ship, as the game crashing/gravitic waves caused this!)

Welcome to Bomba's Bermuda planet!

That canyon, it'll suck you all in, I warn ya, I warn ya!

Situation looks better now with Dormus, hes not in the hole anymore, but still very deep down! And now I here Count has trouble too? This planet really is a griefer ^^

Thank you, but my baby is the DB Explorer (she gets crank when I say Scout for some reason ...not sure why...ship jealousy maybe lol)...but it is good for scouting & getting the nose in there to give Bomba lift every now & then ;)
Sorry - I should have realised that from the lack of exposed wiring in the cockpit in your videos. :)

...and while I was sleeping my video uploaded, so here is Cajun in his ship & then the fateful moment his SRV ....just falls thru Plateau of hope! ...then he rejoins his ship & drops back down to Plateau of Hope for a landing...sorry for the volume...I was tired & shocked when his SRV just ...drops....I was a bit loud:

Yikes and double yikes. Planet Wilson is hungry!
