Help! In SOL system looking to buy an AspEx.

I've been looking around for hours trying to find a shipyard with an Asp Explorer with no luck. So i figured the system where humanity originated should definitely have it right? Well so far ive been to Titan City and not there. Does anyone know the closest place where I can get one?

Nearest known shipyards

Sadly ED in game tools are lacking in certain and various areas. Hence we help ourselves with 3rd party tools, which interestingly, are at least acknowledged by FDEVs themselves. (Fun or sad note - FDEVs stated at some point that they are unwilling to create/update in game tools since 3rd party ones cover that area well).

Anyway, two major links for such tools:

eddb.io
On main page click "Stations" and there, under "filter" add ship you're looking for. Lower, in "reference system" put your current location. Now "find stations". In the table below you'll get list of all nearest stations that offer said ship.

This way you can find not only ships but modules, you can search for certain factions, powers, economy. With EDDB you can find profitable trade routes or trade loops, you can pin point resources, etc. Just play with different options and filters.

The other main tool is already mentioned Inara.cz. I advise you to make an account there - with it you can upload your ED profile and kepp trak of everything you have - ships, modules, credit balance, assets, engineering as well as it contains neat database of systems, stations, commodities, engineering and many more.

YOu can also set yourself financial goals which will give you an estimate on how long it will take to reach them, based on your activity and income rates. Pretty handy tool.

There are many more external tools that help with ED but are more specialized, those two above are the most general and for everything in the beginning.

Hey thanks for the info. How can I figure out how best to outfit my ship with my current funds(7.5mil). I bought the AspX because I was told to do exploration and passenger runs for pretty decent money. I already put A rated FSD and Fuel Scoop on her.

Whenever you buy & fit a new ship, I suggest you make it a habit to fly to Jameson Memorial in Shinrarta Dezhra. It has all ships and modules in the game, which safes you the needle-in-a-haystack flying-around (oh dear, this grammar...). Be aware, though, that Shinrarta is gank city, so you might want to switch to solo.

Aah.. for that there is one more 3rd party tool: coriolis.io, this is a dry-fit ship builder tool. Pick a ship and you'll get the page that looks like outfitting, you have core modules section, optional, weapons and utility. All according to given ship's outfitting capabilities. Each slot is a drop down menu with all available things to put there.

Simply pick what you want and see how it works - above the fitting you have ship stats like speed, armor, jump range, shields, etc.

Below fitting you have costs (on the right) and power management (on the left). That way you can see how much it will cost you to build your ship and if you ever be able to fly it.

General rule of thumb for exploration ships is:
  • biggest A-rated FSD
  • biggest A-rated fuel scoop
  • everything else D-rated, undergrade if possible
  • the smallest power plant you can fit that provide power

Everything else is optional and depends on your plans:
  • if you have access to Felicity Farseer (entry lvl engineer), upgrade your FSD with G5 extended range
  • equally, if access to guardian module, equip biggest guardian booster

A-rated FSD + G5 engineering + booster = 60+ LYs of range

Next:
  • AFMU is handy when you're not feelign safe in space, this can save you some nerves
  • SRV is handy to break the monotonny
  • surface scanner is for scanning interesting planets and ensuring more pay fo rexploration.

stay tuned for example build.

@Phantom Dancer mentioned Shinrarta - good advice but Jameson Memorial is available to CMDRs that are alrady Elite (it's a reward for reaching that status) - all ships and modules availabe at that station, and with 10% discount. If you don't have access yet - search for stations under Li Yong-Rui, there you can find ships with greater discounts.

Here you have 3 baseline exploration build I slapped together. YOu say you have 7.5M available... bit low for optimal but see these:

Asp Explorer

As you can see, base option, without engineering, without guardian booster, 49.5M and 34-37LYs of range. You already have the ship and FSD so it;s 11.2M less. Dunno what fuel scoop you have so you can subtract that as well. But even taking out biggest and most expensive it's still nearly 21M we're talking about. Lets try something smaller and equally good for exploration:

DBX

15.3M and 37-41 LYs of range. As range is better, the price is still above the budget. Without AFMU and you could barely fit. Here's something really good for first explorer:

Adder
28-31 LYs of range, fully base kitted, all for 4.5M and you still have some spare money and space. Not much tho but take this for a 2k LY journey, just outside the bubble (you'll get an invitation from another engineer... or was it 5k? Can't remember), scan systems, map interesting planets (Earth-like > Water world > Ammonia > high metal content > metal > gas giants - scan and map bold ones, just scan the rest) and return. YOu should earn enough to buy and equip DBX. Repeat with DBX but go bit longer and farther. Whithin few hours you'll have enough for full kit of Asp.

Alternatively - another 3rd party tool - "road to riches". Select start system, destination (anything in 2k LYs radius), set your jump range and calculate - you'll get a list of systems worth visiting - confirmed locations that include high value planets. Go along this way, return and enjoy few fresh millions from exploration.

there is another system where you can buy every thing called brestla but for +20 percent on top of the normal price.
which also makes your rebuy more expensive

Judging by his question I'd guess he's not got access to JM as he's probably not elite in any area not a beta backer.

As a beta backer JM is where I buy all my ships and do all my outfitting so I can't help with other good shipyards sadly

perfect funds for a near optimal Dolphin

in budget (6.2million without discount)

un-engineered 33.42LY, with some basic engineering you will see 40LY easy.

*yeah you can fiddle with builds more etc, this was quick and dirty, top tip is drop your AMFU for D class to save money or even a larger B/C/D class fuel scoop to save some serious coin.
i.e a 4A fuel scoop costs 2.8million at 342kg/s, a 5C fuel scoop costs 567K at 412kg/s = its better and cheaper and still scoops adequately enough.

you can get a cheaper Aspx if thats your quest though but you still need 12.7 million (inc ship cost so 6,572,660 credits if you already own the aspX and you said you have 7.5 cash) so go ahead click here and build this and you would have enough change for insurance.

Ive got one you can buy. One careful owner, Full service history.
I got the FSDs Timing belt replaced recently, having just passed 50k lightyears. so thats out of the way.
S.O.T still has 9 months on it.

She's in good nick. PM me.

Hey yes I had already bought the AspX last night after I was told where to get it. I put a 4A FSD on there with a 3A fuel scoop and 5C fuel tank. Now I have 7.3 mil left. Will this be good enough or should i go for the dolphin?

Good enough to press J a lot and scan balls already owned.

Dont fly without at least a rebuy. always happens. Dont buy and sell, it's a net loss everytime. Dont be like me, plan your builds. If you want to make cash fast while investing NOTHING and without waiting, find a friendly squadron and ask for multicrew and wing missions. If you want to make some cash solo, jump in a eagle, go to a high res site in a high sec system and farm bounties the cops will kill for you. You just need to contribute to some damage to get the full bounty.

Just the small matter of acquiring the permit, of course. :)

Well I was told in another thread that exploration can still pay alot and if i did some passenger missions a long side it I could make some decent money. I made like 7 mil yesterday in my type 6 just transporting explosives from a certain system. But I exchanged my type 6 for the asp. Oh well. Guess i need to get some passenger cabins now
