Yes, that's right. I friendshipped to another system and now I seem to be caught in a continuous magical loop. My in-game controls are locked. I can't even get the game menu with the escape key. I fear it may be time to call on the Task Manager. This is magically hilarious!

It was pretty clear that it was, in The Dark Wheel:

Yup when you got interdicted from witchspace by the thargoids you were dropped from witchspace then suddenly picked up again and shoved into interstella space.

That is why you made sure you had plenty of fuel as you could get stranded and need to use the escape capsule.

On the BBC version hitting CTRL+TAB during the jump meant you forced a thargoid interdiction, you could made a ton of money on Alien Artifacts as long as your combar skills were sharp.

I know nothing of Thargoids yet. I thought I heard a video referred to "hyperspace" as "witchspace." If that is incorrect, my profoundest apologies.
