I have the same joystick so this should be easy to help. What seems to be the problem? (I forgot to hit reply... whoops)

Strangely it all started working. I now have no problem. I even rebooted to check and it is all working fine. I lost use of lots of keys using custom. Generic joystick would not let me use keyboard. But thanks anyway. How have you found the joystick?

I spoke too soon!! it has stopped working again. When I nleave the station it crashes into the station as soon as it launches. If I switch to keyboard and mouse it recovers. If I leave it I die.

I have switched off the throttle axis (set it to blank) and now I can launch properly. Do you have isues with throttle axis?

sorry i was busy. I've had mine for a good 3 years, and I do in fact have throttle issues. I've found that trying to set key binds to the throttle on the joystick makes the game freak out. To fix this problem I use the default keys on my keyboard for the throttle and have the joystick control movement of the ship such as banking and turning.

That is weird. When I used the stick (from E: D alpha 1.0 launch to a couple of years ago), I had no trouble with the throttle.
Are you sure you've bound the throttle axis as an axis (FLIGHT THROTTLE - THROTTLE AXIS) and not digital (FLIGHT THRUST - THRUST FORWARD / THRUST BACKWARD)?
Also, having pre-set throttle percentages bound (for example zero throttle), and using those keys and then even slightly nudging the stick throttle will ramp up the thrusters.

I am using the 64bit driver and wonder if this is to blame as nobody else seems to have the throttle axis problem?

I have used this JS in ED since the I got into the Beta in October 2014. Prior to that I used in in MSFS since the JS was released.

The only issue I have ever had with this JS is I wear them out and have to buy a new one.

Either you had the misfortune of getting a bad JS out of the box or you are doing something wrong.

Review posts #11 and #12 then review all the changes you have made to your settings.

Can you return the JS and get a different one to see if the JS is at fault?

I am at a loss really. I cant return the JS during this virus issue. It seems to be working now but I cant use axis throttle (it is definitely axis throttle that I programmed before). Its no biggie to use the keyboard for throttle control. I seem to be able to launch without crashing. I think the axis throttle was moving the ship forward and it would crash into the station inside. If I then change quickly to mouse and KB then it recovers and I dont die it just auto launches.

What settings do you use?

I think the main issue here @Hawknerd is that you are not conversant with how the control settings work in the game.

When you select the joystick from the drop-down list you are making the game use a predetermined set of controls rather than your "custom" setup that you created. One option is to select the custom option from the drop-down list and then individually assign each axis and button on the joystick - alternatively you can select the joystick on the drop-down and then assign all your keys as you want them - then after you click "apply" that becomes your new "custom" option.

This might help you too:

Maybe after you get sorted do a search for "rename binds file" to save you tears in the future.

P.S. You should not need to use a "driver" - just calibrate the stick in windows.

I found that the only JS available from the drop down is a generic JS and this wont let me use the KB or mouse at all. If I try to change the settings of the generic JS then it becomes the custom setting. The Custom setting I use is the only one which allows me to use the JS mouse and KB. As long as I dont bind the throttle axis then all seems good.

Should I uninstall the 64bit driver and use the 32bit one? I found the 64 bit driver on here and so used it. How do I configure it in windows?

You do not need a driver at all. The inbuilt windows game controller handles the stick perfectly well. So I would uninstall any drivers you have loaded for it. Then go to your Control Panel - Devices and Printers - right-click your stick and open Game Controller Settings - select the Logitech in the list and then click Properties - there you can select "Settings" and then Calibrate - follow the instructions - then you can test all axes and buttons on the "Test" tab - click apply and you are all set.

Here, I just plugged in my old Logitech 3D to show:
