Hardware & Technical Help needed... Deskless HOTAS in a tiny flat!

Hi CMDRs. 07.

I need some advice. I’ve seen a lot of you building amazing cockpits and CMDR chairs. I need a really smart solution for the tiny flat that my wife and I are moving into. We’re not going to have space for a desk, and we’re looking to have just folding chairs so I need a really smart, stashable way of using my desktop PC. Mostly for ED of course. We want to be able to do everything from the sofa.

My current setup is all wired. I have a T-Flight HOTAS X, keyboard and mouse, with a 22 inch monitor. I’m happy to swap for a wireless kb/m. Are there any decent cheap ones with backlight? Including a trackpad might help save space but so far all of the trackpad ones I’ve seen are mini style keyboards. I’d much rather go full size if possible.

It would be great if I can get my HOTAS to work wirelessly. Is there any kind of a wireless kit that you can attach to a USB device to make it wireless?

At the moment I’m thinking of getting a wall-mount arm and swing my monitor out from the wall next to the sofa. I can put kb/m on a small folding table in front of me. If I want to use the HOTAS I will need more space of course. What I’d really like is some kind of a Murphy Desk arrangement that flips down from the wall, but I’m not sure how well that would work with the monitor, and it would need to be fully cantilevered as a leg would clash with the sofa and/or prevent me getting in and out easily.

The sofa is going to be under a loft bed so there’s a potential for mounting things above my head and pulling them down. I’m not sure how that would work though.

It doesn't necessarily have to be sofa based if I can make some sort of a folding CMDR's chair.

Has anybody here worked through similar challanges. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks!

I don't know if this is any use but I have a tea tray which I put on my lap with the HOTAS on top of that. My "gaming" chair is just an IKEA chair but it just so happens that the tray sits perfectly across its arms. Even better, that leaves the joystick in the perfect position height wise (I find setups with the HOTAS up on the desk way too high). In fact, when I'm playing in VR my HOTAS is in exactly the same position as the in-game representation.

I got a cheap chair and screwed my hotas to the arm rests and use the tv in the lounge to play. my gaming and media pc is in the lounge. wireless kb and mouse jobs a gooden.

I always play sitting on my sofa with my X52 hotas on either side of me and keyboard in my lap. My TV is the only screen I use for my computer (also Rift the last couple of months). I use an extension cable and it is easy to put away when not using. Of course I live alone so there is no risk of someone tripping on it while playing. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one! ;)

See if you can get a pair of cheap speaker stands.

Velcro the HOTAS down and use a wireless keyboard with touchpad on your lap.

On the left Laptop and HOTAS with Roccat all on a large Laptop tray fully self contained, all you need is power socket. On the Right My good lady plays on the Big TV and a PC mounted in a cabinet at the far side of the room so, 1x5 meter powered USB cable under the carpet. And on rig built on to a standard laptop tray form Argos. Happy to send more pics if you need them o7

I assume the bell is to summon your slave to bring food and drink whilst you're in VR, right? ;)

The Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS doesn't, iirc, have mounting screws so you'll either have to drill some or mount it with Velcro or some other clever method.

I'd consider simply mounting the T-Flight to a flat shelf or other board and then setting that on a bed tray when in use. You can put the whole thing into a closet when not in use.

Wireless options are probably going to be expensive and disappointing.
