Help needed with X52 issues

Hi there!

I've had issues with my X52 pro for ages now but instead of trying to solve them so far I rather lived with them.
Now that it just happened again I'm so annoyed by this crap that I finally ask for help here.

The issues:

Both throttle and stick suddenly decalibrate mid-game.
Although working fine when starting a session, eventually I won't be able to throttle down to zero any more (my throttle axis range is set to forward only). Throttle will be above zero even when throttled down completely. Annoying when docking and especially when being interdicted as I can't submit this way (as a workaround I bound "throttle to zero" to a key...)
In the same manner often enough my stick will start to pitch or roll when actually in zero position. Especially annoying in a pvp fight, as you can imagine...
Sometimes also the lights on the stick start to flicker and my inputs won't be registered properly.

The only (temporary) solution I found, when those issues occur, is unplugging and re-plugging the hotas. Usually then it works fine again for some time. The utterly annoying part with this workaround is, when unplugging the hotas, the "Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control System" in the Windows task bar disappears. When re-plugging it should automatically be loaded again and most times it does but sometimes it doesn't, even when re-plugging several times, rendering the hotas useless. My only solution to this again is to restart the pc as I haven't found where to restart the darn controller manually.

My questions are, did anyone of you have similar issues and get it solved and does anyone know how to start that darn control software manually?

Another issue is that some buttons on my throttle don't register when in full throttle. In order to make them work when in full throttle I have to temporarily throttle down a bit. This is again funny at times because I usually brake from high speed with the reverse button. If my throttle is too high, however, the reverse button suddenly doesn't register any more and instead of braking I'm accelerating full throttle =) While I think the above issues are software related, I think this one's on the hardware side, so not much to do about it, I guess.

Thanks for reading and cheers!

I have a regular X52 that would blip out while flying and loose calibration. It actually ended up being my USB 3.0 hub causing the problem. Replaced it with a PCI USB 3.0 card and it never happened again. I think the hub couldn't supply enough power is my best guess. Hope that helps a little.

Interesting... I'll look into a PCI card myself.

Thanks for the replies but I don't use a usb-hub and my ports are still USB2.0 anyway :-/

edit:
It maybe worth noting that I didn't have those issues from the beginning. Can't say when they started creeping in though. Haven't changed the hardware on my pc for ages except for upgrading the gpu.

On this bit, set the deadzones, can be done ED or sometimes at the driver level.

Thanks bitstorm, but I'd have to make the whole range of the stick the deadzone as it sometimes starts pitching or rolling not only a little but rather pretty hefty =)

x52pro here.
I often have problems with Keyboard keys bound to buttons. It works for some time but then one button press registered 2 or 3 times, sometimes even more often. Anyone having simular problems?
Also the MFD light, which I turned off by pulling the slider for illumination down to zero, keeps lighting up randomly while I use the hotas. The slider is still on zero and if I reapply the settings the light is out again. Ideas?

It's a common issue and the only solution that I know about is a different USB controller. Either you are lucky and your Mainboard already comes with two controllers or you should get an USB Hub / PCI expansion card. IIRC USB Hubs with external power supply work best because the issue is somehow related to voltage fluctuation or something like that. At least that's what I read a few years ago.

I have to open configuration screen, devices, properties of my hotas. And keep the screen open where you see if you touch a button or something. With that open iT works for me otherwise Some buttons dont work.

Edit: Windows 10. All the latest drivers. Even after clean install.... but now iT works great

I've never had this happen. I've had the x52 so long the text has all worn off.

I do have the issue where every so often the lights blink (IE not enough power apparently). I have to swap usb slots. The weird thing is it will happen again a few months later and I have to swap back and its good again.

If you don't know, logitech bought saitek some time ago. They made new software for it. The latest is from september this year.

Thanks again for the replies!

Yeah, got similar issues, too, but addressed only the major ones here...

So do those things also happen with higher quality gear like Virpil, VKB and the like?

Yes, the Flight Controller window has to be open all the time in order for some buttons to work.

...Do you have the latest drivers?

Try downloading it from there, if you don't have the latest drivers.

I'll admit that I do not use the latest drivers. Have never updated them but they worked fine in the beginning. I do know that Logitech bought Saitek and from what I've heard quality hasn't exactly improved since. That's one reason I'm a little reluctant in updating the drivers – I'm afraid it might even get worse! The problem is, I also have a problem with my system which prevents me from being able to roll back to an older system state. I hate Windows anyway but that's another topic =) Maybe I should risk it anyway...

could try in device manager setting those usb ports power management settings. You can change them so they do not power off to save power.

Thanks dubsdj but it's set up like that already.

I updated to latest Logitech-Saitek drivers and my X52 was a total mess after that.
I went back to version 7_0_53_6_x64 and everything is ok now.

Uh, thanks for the heads-up! This just confirms my apprehension! Guess I'll leave my hands off those Logitech drivers then...
Version 7_0_53_6 is exactly the version I'm using although it seems I'm using the 32 bit version...

My X-52 does this when I wear socks.

No, really, I'm serious.

If I build up any kind of static charge, I can easily "zap" the X-52, which causes it to reset. When it does, it performs its analogue axis recentre, picking whatever it's on as the centre mark.

Lol, you should connect yourself to a radiator or ground yourself otherwise while playing :D
