HELP!!! - Oculus Rfit - what to upgrade???

Hi all. I'm looking to upgrade my system so as to get the best possible experience with Elite Dangerous and Oculus Rift CV1 but I don't have unlimited budget so ... it's either CPU and MOBO or Video Card.

My current setup is I7-3770k and GTX Titan. I need some opinions please as I am not that tech savvy. I'm considering either going up to the last generation I7, or GTX 1080 Sea Hawk.

Which do you think will give me a better experience for ED on CV1?

Thanks in advance!! :)

Your processor is fine. No need to update. I am running an i5 2500k fine with the oculus. Regarding your GTX Titan, I don't really know. If it's better then a 970 then you should be good to go.

If you are intent on spending money though, go for the GTX 1080 as your processor should be fine for a while.

Like most gaming, gpu is the key component.
From what I sort of remember somewhat on par or slightly behind the 980, a 980ti beats it flat out, and a 1080 is 30% better than that again.

Thanks guys. My system right now is running ok but, despite the fully immersive experience with Elite Dangerous, I am increasingly bothered by the quality of the visuals. And I'm wondering, will the upgrade to 1080 Seahawk make enough difference to be worth the investment.

I love my 1080 went from 970 if I needed to remind myself it was worth it just click on elite and the smile starts love the visuals now. But my 970 is a lot lower than the titan I would think

Hey thanks for your reply. Based on the web-site that the next poster put up (gpu userbenchmark) titan and 970 are apparently quite similar. So I guess it will be a drastic improvement!

Agree with these posts. I have the same CPU i3770, and asked a similar question of myself. My GPU was a 970 which actually wasn't too bad with the CV-1, but I upgraded to a 1070 which was worth every penny. To upgrade the CPU beyond the 3770 means a new mobo as well - and then all the hassle with drivers and possible complete OS install.

That said, the persistent quest for speed probably means I will get a new CPU/MB sometime in the next year if I can!

And RAM too... 170 chipset motherboards use DDR4, compared to the i3770K's DDR3. Also on a i3770K here, great cpu.

Seem to be having some problems with my motherboard at the moment, visual glitches mean I can't play anything. Reinstalled OS, still same.

GTX1080 will give you more detail in VR, not necessarily more frames. You can push the pixel density a bit harder (I run mostly Ultra settings with 1.25 HMD Quality and 1.0x SS in ED).

Well in that case you will enjoy the upgrade if you decide to take the plunge. Got to get this saw wsa or whatever it's called keeps locking me at 45 fps when it doesn't need to. Cannot get gpu usage above 30%

So definitely go the gpu route as stated above cpu is fine gl cmdr
