Help setting up T16000M Hotas and Joystick

Just bought a T16000M and need some help knowing where to get started setting it up. Any good YT links or suggestions on how to get it up and running? Thanks!

Should be pretty much plug and play. There's even a preset in Elite for T16000M+Hotas. You may want to customize those presets a bit, but to start with just load up the game and maybe do a tutorial mission or something to make sure you understand all the controls.

edit: you can also go look for your bindings file and drop it into this website: https://www.mcdee.net/elite/ and it will generate a handy reference sheet that you can look at while you're memorizing the controls.

Thanks! I was hoping it was plug and play but the sorry excuse for a manual in the box referred to a PDF online that referred to a YT video in French.....so...I asked here.

Repped. Good advice.

I don't use mine anymore- I went back to my HOTAS X instead because I found myself not using most of the buttons/hats available anyway. I also find the lack of a detent on the throttle annoying, too.

Someday I might go back to it, it's a really good HOTAS setup... if you can get past the throttle detent issue (without having to modify the throttle) and you actually use all the buttons for it.

The T-Flight HOTAS X is amazing in its simplicity, and I actually like the feel of the stick better- the index finger button is handy for targeting, too.

As said, it should be pretty much plug and play. Windows (at least Win 10) will recognize it and install drivers. There may well be a preset in ED for it, personally though I just set mine up from scratch using the default Custom bind option.

There's no need to install any Thrustmaster drivers and most people would probably recommend not using the TARGET software.

There's a long thread about this HOTAS here. That said, it is long, so if you have specific questions, probably best just to post them here unless you feel like reading for hours! :).

@ Sylveria... I too came from the T-Flight X, and didn't like the forward only throttle with a button push for reverse. In the end, I have set the throttle up for full range with a generous deadzone, and used velcro on the edge of the throttle opening to give a soft indent. It's not perfect, and I may at some point try to put a groove in the rails for a harder one, but it does work for me, and while I too think the T-Flight X is a great HOTAS, the T16000 is so much more accurate, and the buttons / hats on the throttle give a lot of options, and I'm using it in VR, so don't use any of the buttons on the base of the stick.

I got one a few weeks ago. Was pleased to find it pretty much plug n play and simple to set up the buttons-binds.

Have fun!

I got mine last week, the defaults work fine, I moved the zoom from the paddle to the dial on the left side of the throttle but aside from that it's using the standard ED setup.

I do need to find a way to lube the throttle though, it's kinda sticky.

Yeah mine is too! It's bugging me a bit.

No need. Push the throttle all the way forward and flip the unit upside-down. There should be a hole with a screw in it somewhere in the middle, towards the front of the unit. The screw only lines up with the hole when the throttle is all the way forward. Loosen it to reduce the tension. I did that and mine's as smooth as glass now.

Just don't loosen it too much, or the throttle won't hold at 100% if you let go.

So, for the center detent, I did this: https://imgur.com/a/Jet0h#9tZPkB7

Very easy to do, nothing permanent, and it works pretty well. That said, I've heard the Hotas X is pretty good.

I think it was George Carlin who said "think about how stupid the average person is, then appreciate that 50% of people are dumber than them."

TARGET is a brilliant piece of software that transforms the T16000M into a ridiculously accurate joystick. There are a few gotchas to bear in mind. For instance, the hat needs to be mapped in TARGET for some reason when you use a custom curve. However the sheer amount of customisation available through the scripting language and the GUI means it's well worthwhile learning the basics.

This. Lack of detent takes getting used to after the X. But setting a deadzone s essential to mastery. I did not bother attempting putting in a soft detent solution such as velcro as I found after a couple of weeks it's just muscle memory.

After 12 months of it, I still have a 3 hat clicks on the lower throttle hat unassigned. Going to have a think how I might use those in a PvP context now I'm doing more of that.
