HELP - Ship Almost Destroyed Itself, I lost two days of work...

Hello fellow CMDRs,

I tried out scanning for exobiological data the first time and enjoyed it very much, but while looking for samples MY SHIP JUMPED TO OUTER SPACE ON ITS OWN and when I recalled it, it landed UPSIDE DOWN almost destroying itself, I tried everything to get into the ship but at the end I had to destroy my SRV to enter the ship, resulting in losing all my data worth over 120 million. Why the hell can't the ship stay where I parked it until I finish whatever I'm doing? I really like this game but this made me just furious... Is there any way to stop the ship leaving the surface or to get my data back? I mean it can't be by design that the ship lands upside down..

First of all, you do not lose your data if the SRV gets destroyed. This only happens when your ship gets destroyed, you can blow up your SRV as much as you like. (Edit: Turns out this is nonsense :) /Edit) Second, since update 14, there is a new menu entry called "Recover to orbit". I am not sure where it is, but have a look at the main menu.

Regarding your ship leaving, the ship automatically departs if you drive beyond a distance of 2 km from it, and there is no way around that. Usually it has no problem landing on the surface again, but sometimes it bugs out, and it can be tough on bodies with higher gravity. If the ship does get blown up by the auto-landing, this is usually a case for Frontier support, they usually restore your ship in such cases. But as said, blowning up the SRV does not destroy your collected data. Only going to the rebuy screen results in data and cargo loss.

unfortunately u encountred a bug were the ustick option in the main menu may have worked obviously the ship is not supposed to land upside down
sometimes just loading a different version of the game can right a stuck ship (go to safe orbit)or srv
there is no way I know of to get ship to stay it will always retreat to a safe orbit

Thanks for the reply, I will look for the option.

Regarding the data loss, after destroying the SRV, it showed up the claim losses and the codex losses, I also went to Vista Genomics to look if I still have them and I have indeed no data to sell, but the Exploration data is still there for the Universal Cartographics.

Loading a different version of the game didn't come to mind, thanks a lot for the advices I'll try them the next time when I'm in such a situation again.

The workaround to load 3.8 to recover a stuck SRV or something like that is not viable anymore since the split between 3.8 and 4.0/Odyssey. I guess in theory you can stll recover from an atmospheric body by loading Horizons 4.0, but I have not tested that. But when the split happened, Frontier did add the "recover to orbit" option for such cases. It is found somewhere in the main menu when you are planetside.

Main Menu -> Options Help -> get unstuck or something like that, rightmost item. Will place you in your ship in orbit.

Edit: thanks to @Hooplah

NO! Options has Clear Save which deletes everything in the account and starting again with a Sidewinder.
Help and Info has Stuck Recovery for resolving on foot and SRV issues.

Regards

In Odyssey, to access the 'Stuck Recovery' option you have to completely log out of the game to desktop. Then when you relog back into the game you select the option 'Help and Info' and it's here that you can select 'Stuck Recovery' option. On the two occasions that I have used this option it's taken me back into space.

In all of many hundreds of ship recalls over the years I have never had the ship be upside down.
Yes it may have a problem landing, it just hovers above the ground..... but never inverted.

Probably only Odyssey? For Horizons, you still are just virtually present in the SRV, I guess.
Interesting. I checked it out.
Legacy - Clear Save
Horizons - Clear Save
Odyssey - Clear Save and Stuck Recovery

Looks like no joy in Legacy. Get stuck in Horizons and maybe go to Qdyssey to clear it.

When a ship cannot find a place to land it will hover. Drive under the ship and it can still be boarded.
Would have been interesting to see if boarding was possible with the ship inverted.

Did you consider dismissing the ship and then recalling it? Probably not since you didn't know ships are automatically dismissed if you travel more than 2km from them.

Never heard of a ship landing upside down - shame you didn't take a screenshot for the "Stellar Screenshots" thread.
