HELP : Usings fighters : I cannot get the crew into the fighters.

Help I am at my wits end and have read as many threads as I can find on this, but still I cannot get my "hired" crew member into my fighter.

Some details

1. I have a conda with a fighter bay and a Taipan fighter.
2. I have hired a crew member from the crew menu in station.
3. I have assigned him active in the crew member in the station before launching.

But when I launched and them want to launch a fighter, the crew member keeps showing as in active in the lap menu even thou I activated him in the station.
It appears he is on the ship, but I cannot for the life of me get him into the fighter.

I have checked and double checked I activated them on the station menu before leaving the station, but it seems it does not stick for some reason.
I can't see any other options / buttons other than Set Active or Inactive or details in the station crew menu and of course nothing whilst I am in flight.

As I said on the lap screen, he is there but inactive...

Help, am I missing something in the menu options or something else ?

Thanks

crazy thought, can you get in the fighter? if not then you many not have put fighters in the bay?

Yes no problem, just cannot get a crew member in. It always shows them as inactive in the lap menu no matter what I do in the crew menu before I launch from the station.

But. If you die and rebuy, it will give you a new fighter won't it ?

I will check next time, but I have been struggling for hours to get crew into fighters.

Crew member stays in the ship and pilots the fighter remotely by telepresence, if the fighter is destroyed he is ok and your fighter Bay assembles a new fighter.
If you switch roles and fly fighter then your crew flies the main ship. If the ship dies, then your crew member who was in it also dies, but you are OK, as ummm you fly the fighter to the insurance escape pod, no wait a minute, you are also flying by telepresence so can you die in the fighter
what happens in the srv are you in it? Or in telepresence, Who is flying the ship when you recall and dismiss it? Has it ever crashed doing that, could be an explorer's nightmare.
And I havent even started on how multicrew works.... No idea on that
Nice and clear

great plan! fly the fighter then swap!

When you select the fighter and 'deploy' it should give you the option of selecting the crew or yourself.

Does it give you that option or is it just yourself that can launch in the fighter?

If you launch from station with a fighter bay it should come up saying you have no crew present if you forgot to set active first. But as mentioned by madrax you should have the option when selecting fighter who is going to pilot it.

No, I have seen that in videos, but I can't get it myself no matter what I do.

In crew lounge, remember you have to CONFIRM "set active" before leaving

Cheers Cmdr's

mmm, will check I am doing this, thanxs

Thanks all I fixed it.

I fell foul of the not assigning the crew to the ship at the station at the beginning and so when I went to deploy fighter, I was the only pilot option and so immediately deployed in the fighter.
Since then I haven't hit this button for fear of the same thing happening. Once I assigned crew to the ship, I dared the deploy button and this time I was given the option for me or crew mate to pilot.

The unassigned pilot in the lap menu is the way the gui looks to the untrained eye. The crew was actually assigned as they were above the unassigned message. Why the have the unassigned tag on the lap screen when you have NO unassigned pilot is stupid and caused the issue.

All working now and I love my fighter :)

And I was about to ask if the crew member's name was Brave Sir Robin....oh well :D
