Help with a graphics problem.

Recently decided to invest in a PC after being on console for several years. I got it last week and ED was my first game installed. Had been playing ED for about 20 hours on ultra settings with no problems whatsoever. Everything looked fantastic and i was looking forwards to exploring. I parked in a space station and went to grab a drink and some food. maybe 45 mins and returned to this:

PC was a prebuilt one from a well known and i believe decent supplier (pc specialist uk) so everything was ready to go out of the box. I was using default game settings on the AMD software no Overclocking. After seeing this i got GPU Z and Heaven + Superpostion Benchmark. Temps all look fine but there is a large amount of small squares that look a little like static appearing everywhere. I'm also getting the odd black (normally) square appear on my desktop when i move a window, mouse etc. some of these, including the big white flash in the first videos can be captured on screen dump. No matter what settings i try, in game or in the software, makes any difference whatsoever. I'm just wanting to know its some kind of software issue and not a fault with my graphic card. Its not the monitor as I tried using both hdmi and display port, and also my 4k tv via hdmi and its the same on all of them.

I dont know much about PC's and was hoping someone here may be able to shed some light on whats going on with it. Really quite worried that my card is faulty or damaged in some way. Thanks for taking the time to read regardless.

Ryzen 5 5600x
Radeon RX 6800
16 gb corsair 3000mhz Ram
512 gb m.2 (os)
2tb HDD (game install)

that dot looks like a gpu artifact to me if you get dots/blocks on fur mark bench test then rma is my advice if drivers are to date as micky suggested
as artifacts are usually clear indicator of gpu hardware malfunction.

Yes all my drivers are up to date for windows and gpu. Pretty sure the all the amd ones are. I double checked all of them. I will try the fur mark test, i just didnt want to do anything that might damage things, same with pulling the card out and resetting it. Was kinnda hoping it was just some software/driver issue.Worst case i will have to try and get a replacement/refund from the supplier. First gaming pc as well. Thank you for the replies.

Honestly, the very first thing I do with prebuilts is reinstall them from scratch as soon as I can.

I've yet to have one, including laptops that worked correctly from day one..

I find it odd that the menu overlays in the first vid don't appear to be affected, just the background image. It would suggest a software rather than hardware issue.

I'm also getting the odd black (normally) square appear on my desktop when i move a window, mouse etc

^^^ this is what i find worrying...

but none of the glitches the OP is getting should happen while running the latest official drivers on a non-overclocked system

Might be worth downloading a free game (like steam and say Team Fortress 2) to see if it affects that too.

But tbh whatever the Radeon benchmark software it you have should also do it when you run it if it has a visual element

This sounds like a damaged video card.

Module malfunction (GPU, likely shaders) - RMA with video evidence is advised.

If you want to test with new drivers, get them here:

Personally, I'd do a full reinstallation of Windows first with all the latest BIOS, firmware and driver updates. I had various issues with the graphics (ryzen side) until I went through and made sure I had everything up to date.

It used to be a right chore on older versions of Windows, but with Windows 10 it really is a doddle.

I tried to contact the maunfactuer directly but it was a 2 hour phone queue so i posted on thier tech forum with several other video examples of the problems i have been seeing. I think once i know that its logged in someway then i dont mind trying to do a reinstall of everything as i would rather do that than the hassle of having to box it all up and send it back. Although having had it now just 12 days if there is a fault i can get a full refund or replacment PC as long as its within 30 days.
Am well aware that AMD may have some issues as they have had them in the past. Just really glad i didnt transer my ps4 account so i can still play ED in the meantime.

PC Specialist are very good at what they do and always test well before despatching. If you are not getting this problem with any other games, then validate the Elite game files from the launcher. If same issue with other games then could be a graphics driver problem, or the card itself. If all fails, give the guys as PCS a call.

having black boxes when moving windows or even the mouse over the desktop has nothing to do with Elite.

And indeed i have read about quite an amount of issues with the last gen amd cpu/gpu

I agree as didn’t get to read that bit.

In which case I would run the System File Checker (sfc at the command prompt) and see what that brings up. If that is fine then I’d say it has to be a hardware problem with the graphics card.

Every manufacturer has had issues.

Since everything was working and nothing was changed configuration wise, I'm strongly leaning toward it being a hardware issue.

On second glance, that sparkling in the first video, combined with the windows behavior, really looks like overheating or damaged VRAM on the GPU. Could have been a defect with the GPU or built that didn't crop up until now, or some other component could have damaged it.

I would open up HWiNFO's sensor utility and check memory junction temperature on the 6800. Taking a look at the voltages the PSU is delivering may also help, but there are many potential PSU issues that software or a basic multimeter cannot reveal.

Assuming that doesn't reveal anything, I'd reseat the card and it's power connectors, while inspecting the card and slot for damage. If the system was shipped with a GPU installed, it possible that transport damaged it in subtle ways.

Correct to begin dialogue with the supplier.
The problem you are describing is something that the supplier needs to address.

Thats what i have now begun as the problems are not per se to do with ED just they developed while i was playing it, and i was just hoping that it was maybe something simple that someone may have seen before and knew what might have wrong. I had left it sitting at space station which is where i was seeing the most load and temp on the card but I highly doubt it would do anything to the card except show a fault that would have appeared sooner or later and in that case it is better to have it happen now while i'm still covered. Although i'm still hoping a card reset and a reinstall will sort it out.
Thank you for all, all the same.
