Help with building

Hi there! I'm currently in sandbox mode just learning how to be a bit more creative, learning how to build new things, learn the game in general, etc etc. One of the first things I built was a fountain... But I have two issues.
1. How do you add water to said fountain so its actually flowing from the top and not just sitting in the basins?
2. How in the world do you group things together? I've tried googling how to do this and nothing works. I've tried pressing "R" for the group editing thing but that doesn't group things together... and I can't select more than 1 item at a time (In the settings, it says its ctrl+left mouse button to select multiple items but that doesn't work? It just selects each item individually)
Am I missing something with these or is this just not an option? Please help!

1. There is no flowing water in the game, so the best you can do is standing water and use the various water effects items (like sprays and what not)
2. Press "I" to go into multi select, or click the bottom in the very bottom right. If you are placing scenery item,s they won't be in a group by default, only construction items are. If you select multiple scenery items however you can then make a group out of them with one of the buttons in the top right once you have more than one thing selected.
