Pick a mission to pick up two canisters from a star system, given two hours to do it.

Go to the system, search around can't find anything, now down to last 30 mins of mission.

Am I doing something wrong?

Any clues or advice would be appreciated.

You need to visit the Unidentified Signal Sources; they'll just pop up around you as you fly about the system in Supercruise. Keep searching them, you'll eventually come across one that has the mission objectives, it appears to be largely random, though, unfortunately. Those missions are annoying, but if you know you're going to be checking the USSs anyway, for abandoned cargo or for bounty-hunting, perhaps, then it can be worth accepting them.

Visit Unidentified Signal Sources as they pop up. I find that if you fly between the star and a planet they appear more frequently than if you meander around in deep space. Good luck!!
