Here is an easy way to paste any text file/messages in coms using VA

Just wanted to share this, some of you might know, some might not, so here goes.

I wanted an easy and effective way to paste text messages in the comms panel, as it is a real slow action, especially in combat. I thought it would be nice to have a folder full of different text files, and be able to copy and paste them into the clipboard and then into comms with out needing lots of key presses (even when setting up VA commands) as i was doing.
So i am now using NIRCMD http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html (freeware)

With this tool, i can copy any text file to clipboard with a command line.

nircmd.exe clipboard readfile "c:\My Files\info1.txt"

With this handy tool i can now use this in VA.
just create a command such as "Send friendly message"
Use the other tab and select "run an application"
select where your nircmd.exe is.
then select your text file with the command. (with your message)
nircmd.exe clipboard readfile "c:\My Files\info1.txt"

it should look similar to the one below, (but where ever your files are)

PgP5vmvl.jpg

using default key settings.

Now in game i use this VA command. (you may find your own method)
I just say "send friendly message"
and VA will use the following macro command.

run the application (to copy text file to clipboard)
press 2 (for comms panel)
press w (twice to make sure top contact is selected)
the press space twice (to select text and open blue com panel)
then CTRL + V (to paste contents of clipboard)
then enter to send.

You have to get some pause in there to make it work correctly.

It really works quite well, i have tried it with various messages now.
Of course you can change how you use it too.
Hope this works for you, or any better ideas for this please post below.

edit: i can also set the working directory, then just put in
nircmd.exe clipboard readfile "info1.txt"

i just duplicate the command, then choose different text file and what i say for every different message.

I like this, and will get around to it after, nay before, adding in VA route plotting as detailed elsewhere today. Truly standing on the shoulders of giants today, I am.

Thanks for finding this and making it work :)

your welcome, looking at the list of command lines available with this small tool, it can make VA able to control many things on the pc.

this looks interesting too.

Save 10 screenshots in a loop, and wait 60 seconds between the screenshot save calls. The filenames of the screenshot will contain the time and date of the saved screenshot.nircmd.exe loop 10 60000 savescreenshot c:\temp\scr~$currdate.MM_dd_yyyy$-~$currtime.HH_mm_ss$.png

Yep, I've just set this up to hail nearby Commanders with ease, and I mean I set it up with ease, thanks to your instructions. Next up is make a list of hails/messages to use but first steps have been taken. Apologies to any and all Commanders visiting the station I was sat in while testing this, your unintended cooperation really helped haha!

A pause between the two 'Spacebar' pushes seemed to iron out any problems I had.

Ah...pretty soon the wife and the cat will be fully voice-activated too - Make me a sammich, woman! Errrrggh, invalid command...

great, glad you found it useful.
i use the top contact because if you target someone, they will always be top on the coms panel list.

.

haha, i actually created a test message, telling them i was testing in the message.

I saw a thread on VA a while back that allowed you to define a list of possible outcomes to a command, randomly picked by VA. I think it was to randomly select a spoken response from the computer to a command. I reckon that by combining these two, you could have a number of friendly hails randomly picked on command by VA. Helps mix it up a bit - I've just made sermon.txt inviting the Commander to pray with me to absolve his sins, that may be getting sent out every now and again if I manage to get it set up :D

Me too, only one told me it was working haha!

yes, you can use conditions to select random voice responses, so should work same with different text file responses, i'll have to play around with this.

also tip: if you put some long pauses in when testing, you can see it working clearly, then remove/shorten pauses.

Also for anyone not using Voice Attack, it is worth getting if only for this, as the free version allows up to 20 commands, thats 20 different pre-set messages.

Definite rep for this great piece of ingenuity. :)
Why not share it over on the Google VoiceAttack forum? I'm such Gary would love to see how people are using his app.

Nicely done, Op.

thanks, i don't actually read the VA forum, but if someone wants to link this to there, then that would be great.

Edit: took your advice and paid a visit to share this.

Ok so just tried using multiple text files in a command using conditions, and it appears to work ok.

without going into too much detail the following screenshot should give you the idea.
Then you have to link/use this in your message command (in place of the usual run app command) to give 3 different text messages. You could have more, and it will use them randomly.

Was away for a bit to watch the boxing, but this is good stuff with a lot of scope for making P2P communication more interesting and quicker to execute. Once again nosscar, thanks for your time and effort, should i be fortunate enough to encounter you in the black, I'll execute "Send letsgoforapint.txt", you can buy the pork scratchings.

thanks, now to think of all the messages, i think i will create different folders within the main folder, each with say "warning" messages, and different "friendly" messages and so forth, and have each folder filled with random messages for a particular situation.

Just wondering if there is a limit to how much you can paste into the comms panel, otherwise you could spam pirates with very long messages. lol

So now you could bombard a hostile Commander with .... ummm ... poetry, while you close in for the kill :)

Yes, theres a lot of text out there on the web, copy/paste is so easy. The mind boggles.
