Here you can mining Palladium near Kaushpoos

Just turn off the power to the prospector controller, limpet will self destructrs.
If you want a prospecter to destruct you're likely wanting to shoot another roid with one, in which case just shooting it will cause the previous one to self destruct.

Hit up HIP 43296 earlier and was able to get 50 tons in a relatively short time, especially compared to 38 Lyncis.

At HIP I dropped into the high res mining area and stayed within a 30 radius of the center. Could all be just totally random but it was a much better experience at HIP even if I had to swat a few pirates with my MinaPython :)

Could be luck / randomness.. I've been mining that area in HIP too and in the 4 runs I've done (taking an hour or so each) in total all I got was about 74t :( Mind you I'm only in a type 6 so I have to stay well clear of the actual Res areas and once you take into account the limpets taking up cargo space, I'm only left with approx 60t cargo hold.

Happy to just get on the board for the CG, and made a fair bit of extra cash holding onto other high value materials too, so not all bad.

Nope. Turning off the power to the module destroys the associated limpets, simples.

Try it if you don't believe me.
Did you read? I didn't say that doesn't work, I said just firing another prospector destroy's the current active one anyway.
.
EDIT: Never mind just saw my own horrid gramar.

Fixed it, I think.

No problem. 😉

The guy I was answering didn't stipulate why he wanted to destroy a prospecter limpet, not sure why myself.

Collector limpets I can understand, sometimes you need to free up the cargo space, so I just launch a bunch and turn the module off, rinse repeat as necessary.

Why bother destroying them, though? Can't you just launch them and ignore them, or does the ship reserve the space for them until they're destroyed?

They take up cargo space, so if you get too many tonnes of metal before you use enough you have to eject them but that's useless as the collector's just put it straight back in your cargo so you need to do something to make space. ;)

Grrr, just want to add here that pirates (even NPC ones) can sneak up on you very easily. I didn't realize you couldn't use AB with the cargo scoop engaged BTW, and as a result lost another ship. This is getting expensive.

Also, those really spinny rocks that blow up your collector limpets can go die in a fire.

I've got a 3A Prospector controller which can launch 2 drones. I fire them both off at rocks and read off the compositions. If neither of the rocks are any good, I power-cycle the controller to destroy the drones, then launch 2 more at different rocks.
If I fire off 2 and 1 of them is worth investigating, I don't fire off another prospector until I've depleted the good rock. If both are good rocks then bonus!

How about telling me where you get so much Painite? That's a nice find.

In the same way I'm being picky about mining rocks with Pd, I'm also checking out any rocks with >20% Painite or >30% Platinum. I'm finding my total tonnes Pd is the same as Painite and Pt combined most of the time.
There's no other special tricks. I just drop into the ring itself at 38 Lyncis 4 and start checking out rocks as I head towards the planet.

BTW, is there a way to call back limpets once launched (at least collector ones)?
Once they have collected all the fragments in the area, they will attach themselves to your ship and you can fly to the next 'roid. They also seem to last longer this way - maybe they recharge while they're attached?

Mining in the field at 38 Lyncis under a distant white star. This game has some sights!

Worth mentioning that it's virtually ON a class 'Y' dwarf star, so watch out for your jump in and prepare for things to be a bit toastier than you'd usually like. Oh, and you can get attacked by NPC's frequently further adding to any heat damage you may take during general mining.

Great extraction site, though.

Honestly up until it was mentioned I never even noticed an issue with the heat.. I run dual class 2 mining lasers so they heat up fast anyway.. I keep an eye for that next time out.

Lol I was thinking it was because I downgraded my power distribution. My python was heating up pretty fast with 2 C2 mining lasers. I didn't even think about the proximity to the dwarf. I dumped the A7 back in and it stopped it from happening.

Didn't have a problem with NPCs here though... Sometimes one will spawn when I get there. Last one was in a clipper, scanned me with the "what goodies do you have in your hold" type message... I sat there with my finger on the trigger waiting to see if he was going to demand my limpets. But he did an about face with a "Sorry to have bothered you" message lol! He never bothered me again though was in the area for awhile.

Just sold the Gunship for a Cliper(late to the "no more rank needed" news), may go mine more Palladium now. I wish I had a kinect, if I did I would've said "Xbox record that" when I launched in it for the trip back to Kaupoosh, took off put it 4 to Engine and in the very top of blue(habit you will likely develop if you fly the Gunship long enough).......didn't realise my mistake until I was going 150m/s, scraped the botom of my shield's on the exit but made it out with no damage and no fine. :D
