Hey, how about some "Reasonable Suspicion" here, eh?

You miss my point and turn to hyperbole.

9 times out of 10 that text window is utterly useless - there is not even a flashing icon that a new message is directed at me.

When I get a notification of Faction Reward and similar points the little mail icon lights up to tell me a message has arrived.
When someone (npc or player ) sends me a message there is no indication of it, zip, zero nada.

I can have a signal or vibration on my phone to inform me of an SMS and that's not an unreasonable thing. Esopecially if it is something important like an NPC in supercruise trying to tell me something.

A flashing icon would at least be helpful just as my onboard computer CONSTANTLY tells me if a targets shield is on or off but it cannot tell me I have a message?
You are right, I really don't see your point.
There is an audible alert for text messages but anyway I thought we were talking about being interdicted so why do you need to see it in SC?
You get interdicted (quite a noticeable thing), you look at chat or select highest threat and respond appropriately. I really don't see any problem with how it works atm. It's not like you can reply to the NPC message in SC and persuade them not to interdict you.

Maybe I am missing something but it just seems like an non-issue.

But when an AI interdicts you there is always a message. I agree a ping might be nice, but juzt check it already. :)

Devs: Please refer to Message #15 in this thread. Please address the points raised there. Please tell us what the hell is the problem with making this game act reasonably, and not like some sugar-addled 12 year old who can't get his act together regardless of mummy's constant harping.

And all you Frontier apologist wannabees: Could you please put a cork in it? Yes, yes -- we all know you think the game is perfect as it is and Frontier can do no wrong and their droppings don't stink. Guess what? It isn't, they can, and it does. Take a look at the very reasonable complaints offered up in this thread and respond to those, would you please? Don't just react with a knee-jerk defense of All Things Frontier.

We have to be able to discuss the problems with this game without rancor if we're to arrive at any conclusions Frontier can use. They can't think of everything by themselves, folk; they need our help. We're not helping if we're too busy sniping at each other. Eh?

Hello Commanders!

A little info drop:

If you submit quickly enough, you should not really be taking any damage. If anyone is taking damage even after submitting *instantly*, I think it might be good to get a bug raised.

Authority ships interdict criminals and suspicious ships.

With criminals it's fairly obvious, you're wanted by them, they interdict you to take you down.

Suspicious ships are interdicted to check and see if they are smuggling illicit cargo: just because you are CLEAN, does not guarantee that you are not committing a crime :)

Your reputation with a minor faction affects how suspicious the authorities think you are. As it rises, the less bothered the authorities will become, and the less likely you will be targeted for a spot check.

Hope this info helps.

Hi Sandro.

Are these spot checks supposed to involve NPC authority/navy ships scanning you after interdiction? Because for a while now, they interdict you then fly off - completely ignoring you. No message, no scan.

I reported this as a bug way back when it first started happening [edit] Found the video used in the report... on 18/2...

Yeah, once again we need a Remedial Magna Carta 080 class: Reasonable Suspicion. Here in the Good Ol' US of A we have a very basic principle of law that goes back 900 years and a week or so -- presumed innocence. Although the specifics are not outlined in that august document, the principles are. The presumption of innocence is required to make any societal freedom work at all, and if ED is going to be filled with "law enforcement" acting like street thugs then why should we act in any way other than as anarchists?

You'd either be shot because your fat T-9 moved towards them and they felt "threatened" or you would be tasered.
If ED were the Good Ol' US of A then my T-9 would be very heavily modified to trade internal cargo space for an even larger power supply and weapon mounts to hold the most vicious guns known to Man. Also, my gimbals and turrets would have far better actuators and target tracking than the junk currently available in the game. These things smack! Just look at the way a beam wanders all over the place, on and off target like a drunk Marine on leave. Eesh.
