Ok. Where are the HGE's yall been harvesting and what's in them? I will start off = Pethes / Military Super Capacitors, Proto Heat Radiators, Core Dynamic Composites, Proto Radiolic Alloys, and Military Grade alloy

The rules on Inara still apply but on individual faction basis not the overall system state, I generally head to high population systems and scan with the ADS and check for HGE's

Certainly some mats are hard to find but the ability to locate HGE's quickly and efficiently more than makes up for this.
From my observations Empire aligned systems (high population) with no specific faction state will default to Imperial shielding, with Federation the default drop is Core Dynamics composites and proprietary composites.
Once other states are added an additional mat is added to the list and that appears to have a higher probability than the default, I suspect there's also a spot of RNG but the following list has certainly worked for me.
Obviously this isn’t a complete or definitive list but it works as a decent guide to finding a lot of mats quickly.
I agree that collecting the mat that’s available/plentiful and trading it for what you need isn’t particularly efficient but it gets the job done, e.g. I’ve been in Empire space quite a bit recently and I’ve maxed out the Imperial shielding storage several times and had to go to a mats trader and level out the stock.

In addition to the various scanners, you can utilize a visit to the NAV beacon as well. Be sure to monitor the timer on that particular target or it will jump to a new location within the system - then you have to start over - some timers are quite short, while others give you a half-hour or so.
IPFreely's post is correct. It is faster to scan the NAV Beacon than using the Discovery Scanner to find Signal Sources. The Discovery Scanner might reveal a few signal sources but scanning the NAV beacon reveals almost all the signal sources in a system. Note that signal sources continue to randomly spawn so even scanning the NAV Beacon will not reveal signal sources that spawn after you scan the NAV Beacon, you will need to keep checking the NAV Panel.

why can't the systems of the ship communicate with nav beacons and starports for trading data, when you in the same system,
And not when you're in the same instance or docked.
Yet you can talk to anybody when super cruising in the same system

just bookmarking this, as i often forget by time i need to fill up, the in game descriptions are still as cryptic as ever, i know its the frontier way to obfuscate everything but why o why they just didnt stick it in a neat little table like what you've done is bonkers.
Been doing some random HGE collection as I engineer a ship and the number of HGE's spawning appears to have increased noticeably, previously 2-3 in a suitable system but this morning on my way to Deciat I located 5 (dropped into 3 and maxed out proto heat rads, as the others were 50 kls+ and probably the same drop I moved on)
Update; Fairly sure the system with 5 HGE's was Anukam but I also got several in Miritu, Zhang Fei and Deciat
