Newcomer / Intro Hi all, got graphics problems

Hi all,
A big hello from me and to all you commanders out there. Having just joined i hate myself for starting on a sour note, because ED is such a great game, so to the gripe ... anyone know how to fix the faces of the holo me and npc faces as they have all dark smudges on them.
Tried re installing ED and also different graphic settings, using a GTX 970 card this way, but so far to no avail. So if any other comanders have come across this lly detail please let me know how you got on.
Other than that it's great to see such a great forum.

That sounds like corrupted textures, maybe? Or outdated drivers. 970 shouldn't have any problems with high settings or a mix of high and ultra.

Go to the launcher, hit the options and click "Validate game files" (or something like this, can't check, right now)
Then go to the nVidia website and search for the newest drivers for your card and operating system.

And out of curiosity, aren't you by any chance using a custom HUD coulour scheme?
And do you see any other weird graphical artifacts anywhere? Something like that may suggest locally overheating graphics card.

Screenshot would be nice.

edit: Oh and hello! Welcome to the forums. This post was probably delayed due to the firs post rule (a couple of posts from a new user have to be approved by a mod to prevent bots and spammers) so I hope you either already succeeded in solving the issue or will come back later. OK many thanks for all of the sound advice and yes it was the graphic driver. Sorry about not adding a screenshot, but when you become an old fart like me you start to forget about the more important things...huh! Didn't think it would have been the graphics card as I haven't had any other problems on other games.
So many thanks chris for your advice and Maenden i did check out that link and it was spot on with the description and the smudging of the faces. So if anyone gets the same problem we'll know what the cause is.

Welcome to the game and forums enjoy both.
On screenshots, the forum software doesn't allow them to be posted directly you have to upload them to a host sight then link to them a lot of us use Imgur which is free and provides an easy link to paste into your message.
