Hi there

So, to confirm, it will be possible to spread the load of tonnage between wing ships for a delivery mission?
For a wing delivery mission, yes. For normal delivery missions, no.

Hi there,

Why?

Thanks,
babel

PS

Looks like I picked the wrong quote... This is the one I am referring to... ;)

Are these wing mission changes also carrying over into non-wing missions? If I'm in a 50T cargo ship, can I grab a 200T cargo mission?
You can accept wing missions and perform them solo. With non-wing missions being linear, the mission depot (for wing missions) treat the mission as a loop and this inclusion changes missions on a fundamental level. So, normal delivery missions with not gain the mission depot at this time.

Didn't FDev already explain this in their Beyond video part 2?

There are a whole load of new game mechanics that are brand new to make wing missions possible. If this is applied to all missions, the game balance will be completely thrown up the swanee.

I actually agree. One step at a time. But it would be nice, at some point in the future that nearly any mission could be taken on by a team.

I'm so confused as to why you'd want to do this? Forgive me for answering a question with a question but: "Why?"

In my head:
"Come on friend, help me carry this cargo over there. I have enough cargo racks to take the mission myself and you don't get anything for it since it's my mission but be a good sport since we are in a wing! What? Yeah, I did see a wing mission we could have worked together on but I chose this one instead... so, will you help me out?"

Which may just be breaking the meter on sarcasm but seriously can you enlighten me, I feel like i've missed something obvious?

I am not talking about every mission, just hauling.

Alex... You got it all wrong. The idea would be to add part delivery mechanics to all haulage missions, not just the wing ones. I understand that this doesn't necessarily work for all missions for various reasons, but haulage missions should be no problem.

And the answer remains the same one FDev have already publicised. What you are asking for is the current haulage missions are dropped and replaced entirely with the new wing-mechanic missions. I want this too. But I do see that this is a massive step when wing missions haven't even been proved to work yet.

Their reason against it was that they would need to replace all mission templates. In case of haulage missions there can't be that many. Also their reasoning was the other way around, the question was: Why can't we turn every mission into a wing mission? I absolutely understand the problems coming with that. My proposal is something completely different.

It's different, yes. It is not completely different. If they remove the current haulage templates, then they need to ensure the new wing haulage template has a spread that covers the original haulage + the new greater haulage amounts that make more sense for wings. That is a lot of balancing and checking with RNGesus, plus opportunity to wrongly skew the rewards again.

I wouldn't implement that way, first time, on a live production environment; beta or not.

I don't think it needs to be part of 3.0 but should definitely be a consideration for the next update after it.

I agree. I would like nearly all missions to be potentially wing missions. But I'm prepared to give it time...!

But then we will get a new bunch of solo players saying there are certain assassinations that are impossible for them to win. I acknowledge FDev can never wholly win with this community...

Ahh, thats what I was missing. So you can take a 50T mission with a ship only managing 10T and do it in 5 trips?

Makes sense to me now, thanks :p

They already said you can do these wing mission solo if you like - so what are you really asking for - just that they remove smaller missions?? I know people are always complaining that the gameplay is too diverse and that lots should be removed, but that sounds - weird....

Wing missions do not have to be big. A wing mission with 10-20T hauling is just fine. Do that 1) in one trip in Hauler, 2) in two/three trips in Sidewinder or 3) in one trip in a Sidewinder wing.

The same mission is good for three situations and the same reward is good or OK for them all. For bigger ship owners the reward would be too small.

The fact that wing missions don't actually need to be completed by a wing means that these missions will be available in this update anyway. If you want to do a delivery mission in several runs, just take a wing mission and do it yourself. I see no reason why all missions should allow partial completion - some delivery runs may require that everything arrives at once.

FD have already given the reasons that they are leaving the existing templates alone - they work fine, and there's no point in risking breaking them.

So, personally, I don't want any changes to the standard delivery missions. I'd rather have the choice between those and wing missions.

PS: "Hi there" is probably the most inaccurate thread title I've seen for a while...

No, I am not asking that they should do that. I am simply suggesting that they add part haulage functionality to all haulage missions. That would mean that you could technically succeed in a 50t mission using your Sidewinder (it takes a lot of time though).

How about consistency?

PS:
That's because you didn't understand the thread title.

BTW
I don't even want wing functionality for normal haulage missions. I just think they could all benefit from the mechanics.

That question is about having normal delivery mission vs. wing delivery mission.

What you wanted to know will be there normal delivery mission with multiple haulage possible. That's not what Will talks about.

That's correct. ;)

During stream I think they clarified - or after that I can't remember - that it is possible that depot mechanic appears in "normal" missions. Those still would be seen as something you complete alone - even if you have escort.
