I recently started playing Elite: Dangerous again after some time, and I was surprised to see that player owned fleet carriers show up on the system map, in the navigation panel, and in flight while in supercruise while playing in solo. I'm not sure how other people feel about this, but I think player owned fleet carriers showing up in these places while in solo takes up too much space, and can make finding locations in star systems more difficult.

yeah, I don't understand that as well - I have them filtered out and they don't show in the nav panel anymore. That they are in the system map is good though, it provides information about the importance of a system sometimes. They effect the economy of the BGS as well, so why exclude them, you are part of the system as well in solo, the only difference is that you don't see other players in their ships or SRVs - and afaik those fleet carriers as well just when they are stationed in orbit.

I don't think we need to hide them in system map, rather they should be in groups around each body which can be opened and closed. In nav panel you can hide them.

I’d like the option to hide them in the System map - it takes long enough to scroll around in VR anyway, without the sometimes conga line of FCs to get past.

The orrery can be difficult to use when there’s a swarm of carriers around a planet or body - locking on to a planet is a pain and it’s all just a jumbled mass of names anyway. I know the orrery isn’t much use and a shadow of what it could’ve been (looking at the original concept renders), but still 😁

Before FC came I I remember several of us pondering how they would appear on the system map, how they couldn't possibly be planning to show that all as it would be an unreadable mess, so they must have some cunning plan....

... and here we are :D

It's not an easy one to solve though (well, unless you make like the OP and ignore all other players), especially for those occasions when you do want to see them. I guess something like surface settlements - where you can find then on the left panel and use that to focus down on where it is, only showing then when you zoom in. But that's a lot of extra work. And first they'd have to make the left panel work better for FC.

Either FCs were going to be simple storage lockers (that could be kept locked to your instance / mode etc) since they had no impact or they would be what we have now, mobile stations which really have to be all over. FD wanted to push for maximum impact and certainly got it :D

This. The system map needs an overhaul in terms of how Fleet Carriers are displayed because, let's be honest, it ruins a system map when there's 15 carriers around every single body.

Maybe something like a Fleet Carrier icon beside a planetary body with a number indication of how many and then if you click it, you get a drop down box of all present carriers.

Not sure this is possible with the current set up. At the moment they display on the system map as stations, it may take a serious re-write of the way the system map displays those assets.

Oh yeah, they would have to overhaul it for sure to pull it off. But it is something that needs doing, imo. It's certainly not a priority and I can live with it, but it would be nice for them to address it in the future.

Actually the many UI elements needs overhaul. Like contacts menu should be easier to navigate, at least there should be some groups distinguishing between ships, items and materials. Not to mention hardpoints freezing whole interface while dismounting weapon/utility, filtering storage/shop items, and some more UI problems.

How are they still going to bother you if you filter them out from the nav panel?
Like this. In case you've never encountered the System map yet:

There will come a day where you're heavily damaged, maybe low on fuel, or you're out of ammo. Alone, cold, possibly dying. Out of options. Nowhere to dock, nowhere to get help. All is lost....

Then behold, you see a Fleet Carrier on the system map. With repair services and such turned on, with docking access set to "ALL".

That day came for me. If this day ever comes for you, perhaps you will feel differently about the very small annoyance seeing Fleet Carriers on your map/nav pane pose. ;)

Solo gets enough stick on the forums without it being turned into a dumping ground for unwanted FCs, I think they should be hidden in Open in a variation of the purloined letter principle.

It would be nice to filter out all the ones that I am not allowed to dock at though.
