Hardware & Technical high contrast cylindrical projection system for space sims = 2K VR

There's a reason cheap projectors are cheap - check out that (lack of) resolution. I have one that res, except it is now about 10 years old so I paid a lot more than that back then. Also brightness may be disappointing unless you turn out all the lights.

Personally, I think the idea is a little silly. But it might be fun as a novelty, perhaps to show films to a gang of noisy kids. I have seen some on Amazon for less than £50 which would probably be more than adequate for that.

I'm sure the more expensive ones, £1000+ will come with impressive features. But I really think I have rather more important things to spend my cash on.

Now that Corbyn's been elected leader, I'd join the Labour Party for the first time in my life, for example.

And that will be rather more fun, me thinks than getting a crick in my neck looking up at a large white sheet trying to remember where my character actually is. :)

I must have been on a bad day back then.

I do like the ides and am very impressed. I doubt I would have the space personally. But it is great.

I might bit chip in here :) . The Icarus is not trying to compete with Oculus to bring the cheapest immersion and there is no point even trying. The Icarus is more is about quality, comfort and high fidelity of the experience (chalk and cheese :) )

Even if I would use the cheapest projectors and the cheapest projection materials the price would be still much more than Oculus while losing quite a lot of advantages projection system can have over HMD. Quite frankly if I would have to chose between the cheap projector with cheap white projection screen I think I would go with the Oculus or 3 monitors in dark room.

The projection surface has as much impact on the image as the projector and the right combination is the main thing and unfortunately making the black pearl HDR surface is neither easy or cheap. (but in my opinion the result is worth it)

- the video is bit blurry sometimes as the camera is getting bit fooled about depth and focuses through the screen (this footage was taken before I enabled the VSR 6400 x 1800)

Don't drink and fly! Or at the last train the family to provide attendant service :)

What's that drop down thing behind the seat? Camera or other sensor of some sort?

Something's Just occurred to me.

And if I may add, even if every computer game was shut down today, the look on your kid's faces in the #24 photos would make the entire project worth while.

You're a very lucky man. :)

Cheers :).

The girls absolutely love it (they are little addicts now).

I've added the the voice attack some time ago (it's worth every single penny) - Astra VA together with roccat powergrid it's something out of this world - it's pretty much how I imagine flying real space ship :D.

I like the look of this, I can see 1 big advantage over the Rift in that you can see the keyboard etc. More immersion. However, the downside I see is that you can't look up.

Well, tomorrow is arriving the nvidia 3D kit so it will be full VR/AR holodeck :). The plan is to blend the virtual hardware with the real one like I used to have it on the Titans (all I need then is a spacesuit) :D

Pretty impressed with the edge blend region - I work in flight simulation and I can tell you 16 channels is a pain in the bum to maintain when you throw in motion and vibration trying its best to shake every thing about.

I really like that.

My missus wasn't impressed with me switching from 3 monitors to a 3440x1440

But I could seriously rebuild my computer room around this.

Just don't tell the boss!

I know I am very late to this party, I am looking to buy/build this exact cruvedscreen set up, can anyone help me find any info on the curved screen?

What good is that amount of cylinder projection when you pitch up and down? Imagine an Elite type flight model (roll and pitch) on a broad strip of screen. For an airbus plane sim, ok. Helicopter, yeah. But space sim? Nah.
