Ships History of ship buffs and nerfs - we could have 67 ships by now! (instead of 33)

I think it would be cool in a more role-playing sort of galaxy for a wider variety of ships to be purchased in varying versions and states and prices though perhaps E:D isn't that game.

I'm imagining in such a scenario that component's health/condition is on a curve such that perfect condition is quite expensive to obtain or repair, you can buy working-but-beat-up for a significant discount, etc. I don't think this mechanic would go over very well in the E:D community though, most don't seem like they'd want to bother with that sort of career/economy immersion.

Good point, ED may not be that game, sadly. It should be though, "blaze your own trail" is role playing at its most pure.

Regarding condition of ships, I had a similar thought. In fact, ~20 years ago me and my bro conceived an Elite-like game where instead of buying ships and upgrades new you could buy them second hand, or even from the scrap yard! On reflection that would be an odd sort of game, probably a little too much like real life!

you rolled a 1. Turn to page 38. Unfortunately your secondary distributor valve on the the fsd has given up the ghost, you tumble out into real space. Roll a 5 to 6, you use your masters in Astro engineering and rig a replacement and carry onto the nearest safe port. Roll 3 to 4 , you with blind luck manage to coax the fsd into SC and make it to a outpost with a very dubious management where your fleeced for a fsd , well if it could be called second hand it would be in far better shape, (take a hit to your profit margins, you need a new fsd). Roll a 1 to 2 , you stare blankly at the fsd, if you had paid attention in the FSD maintenance section of your training you may had a rudimentary idea how to fix the fsd, but Tetris was a more riveting experience that week. So now you either try and limo at normal relative speeds hopefully you can make the nearest outpost in a couple of months before fuel and supplies dry up or somewhere, someone hears your distress call and rescue you. Roll on the mishap and dangers table

hmm.

Following this thread's logic we would have gotten a new Chieftain this week with a smaller hit box on the cockpit, in addition to the version we already had with a larger hit box.

Interesting.

It would be a nightmare to balance ships if they leave made copies after each little buff/nerf

I'm not against variety, and i'm the first one to bash at the head of DEVs with a pillow, but at this point we have to see it thru their eyes and understand that we can't have both good quality 30+ ships or average quality 60+

By the way, your fruit image description is false, each one of these fruits were selected and a good portions of them are in the trash

not sarcastic at all! she had more character and made a bigger dent at full ramming speed. Id happily have both in my fleet with seperate roles
