Homage or ip violation

Homage or IP violation of what?

The “Star Trader” computer game from 1974 or the Star Trader board game that came free with issue 12 of ARES magazine in 1982? I’d guess the latter going by some of the character art in the magazine comic strip that accompanied the game :)

If you’ve not tried Star Traders: Frontiers, it’s very good and well worth the £7 or so (I’ve got it on my tablet). I’ve never seen anything any more infringe-y than any other space trader genre game. Certainly not like the original Elite is of the Traveller RPG :D

I know the game well.
At least you clarified what part of the IP you think is infringed.
I'm going to guess neither is the answer to your question.

Star Traders: Frontiers is actually a very nice game. Spent a lot of time in it some time ago, and it has since grew a lot because the devs are fantastic and kept adding free patches. and content almost every single week for almost 2 years after launch. It's surely worth a brand new playthrough now.

Look forward to their new game.

As for the topic, I think it's neither a homage or ip violation. It's just a game with the word "Frontiers" in the title. And while it's called Star Traders, trading is but one of the many things you can do.
