Horizons Horizon wipe

Maybe i'm just not that bothered about virtual things that don't actually exist.

Eh I'm more bothered about having to spend real time again to get virtual things I already have a second time, when it's really not necessary.

Good luck to you. Stupid idea for people like me however, who can count themselves lucky if they get to play two hours a week.

Starting again is part of the fun though (for me anyway). I get your point about not having much time to play the game I don't have a massive amount of time either. In the end my main motivation for playing the game is just playing it and enjoying the experience, not fretting over when I will get an Anaconda (which will be never), or when I make Elite (which will be even more unlikely than never).

If people's main motivation for playing the game is getting to the big ships and earning bazillion's of credits then fair enough I can perfectly see why wiping would not be good. But as stated those are not the things that drive me to play the game, so I don't mind.

why does it really matter.

You have to consider that while it's all virtual there is also a time investment that people have put in.

To simply wipe out 100, 200, 1000 hours or however long people have played isn't something everyone want to do. Sure, you had the experience and joy of playing for those hours, but for many a wipe and restart would feel like they basically wasted all the time spent and end up with nothing to show for it (except the experience itself).

Some play for the experience.
Some play to earn things and enjoy the goals after reaching them (e.g. getting an Anaconda).

Regardless of why you play, the value of the time invested shouldn't be underestimated. It means a lot more to some than you might think.

But if all you are interested in with ED is the 'experience' then virtual material items shouldn't matter regardless of how much time you have put in. As stated previously if peeps are playing the game for the ships and credits and ranks, then fair enough a wipe would be silly, but if you are just playing for the experience of playing then it shouldn't really matter.

Of course in the future where we might get more personalised items then yes it would become a lot more difficult decision. I am not in any way stating that the time people put into the game isn't important, but if its just an experience then losing credits, ship or rank shouldn't matter one bit. I have put a fair few hours into the game as well, I don't regret wiping in any way (several times now).

I would love to. I've thought about it several times... And I totally would... If gaining naval ranks wasn't like shoving a pipe cleaner up my junk. I got 2 more ranks to go before I even get the cutter. So, I won't be starting over for quite a while. If anything, when I get the cutter all A class, I'll just blow it up until I can't afford to get it back... lose all my money, and start over that way. I'm keeping that damn rank...
