But IIRC, you are saying that "Odyssey Lite" (this 4.0 Horizons) already exists, it's just hidden from normal users, for now. What I’m saying is that Frontier plans/planned to get rid of 3.8 completely and have all players on the 4.0 client.
Yes.But IIRC, you are saying that "Odyssey Lite" (this 4.0 Horizons) already exists, it's just hidden from normal users, for now.
Yes? No?
I agree, although they may well keep the old horizons client going until eitherI've seen absolutely nothing that leads me to think that FDev has changed plans in this respect. I fully believe that once they've fixed the performance somewhat then the old 3.8 client will be replaced by the 4.0 client.
Maybe, although the decision to keep maintaining the 3.8 client on consoles might've thrown a spanner in that plan? Although I suppose Frontier probably don't appreciate me digging through unfinished client functionality, never mind me also speculating on their decisions...I've seen absolutely nothing that leads me to think that FDev has changed plans in this respect. As client 4.0 already contains the entire content from Horizons and base game (else there would be no Horizons content available without exiting Odyssey and opening Horizons) all that is currently missing is the code needed to prevent Horizons interacting with Odyssey exclusive content.Well FDev said they were replacing it, and since I haven't heard anything contrary, I fully expect them to go ahead with it..
I do wonder that myself. With Arf telling us that the alpha was an old branch and that the release one was much better, then it wasn't (worse in some ways than alpha, too), in fact had issues not seen during alpha, just what happened to that 'better version' in the few weeks between the end of alpha and release?Maybe Frontier didn't expect the difference to be that vast.
I'd expect that is why it hasn't already happened, but once they get performance fixed up they'll follow through on what they already said.I assume one problem would still be performance. People who didn't buy Odyssey would all of a sudden be forced to accept the worse performance and changes to lighting and planet surfaces. Maybe Frontier didn't expect the difference to be that vast.
Currently, this is the situation when it comes to clients:I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that if I were to buy Odyssey, I would lose Horizons Legacy and get a Horizons "mode" (Odyssey Lite) in its place? I didn't think this was the case. If it is, then I'm definitely not buying Odyssey. You'll have to pry my true Horizons out of my cold dead hands
But I'm very skeptical of your claim. Anyone else care to weigh in?
I just read a comment that the UI was changed for console, and that actually seems familiar. Maybe it was just a theory around the time of release. One issue is the Horizons surface settlements. Many (if not all) are located at completely different locations on the planet surface, those that are not have terrain differences - so, although orbital locations are not an issue, maybe surface ones would be. So Oddy and Horizons players can't meet-up for SRV races at Dav's Hope for example.
Personally, I still hate all the Oddy UI stuff with a vengeance and would love to keep Horizons as-is (assuming F D can manage to return station facilities list in system maps).
