Horizons / Odyssey Compatibility

Unplayable ? not really...
BUT! There were still a lot of bugs and missing features in the last alpha (no full scale galaxy, no fleet carriers, 'weak' exploration content, buggy UI requiring relogging, unoptimized and glitchy graphics, etc... and I don't count the 'legs' bugs, separate open/private, and so on).
Without a proper 'beta' and a full release just 3 weeks after alpha testing, let's just say that I will stick to horizon for a while.

In an alpha build?

  1. Am I the only social outcast who doesn't have any RL friends I play the game with? (well, there's one, but he stopped gaming altogether a couple of years ago, board games aside).
  2. If I want to wing up with someone I'll just do it when I meet them in-game, and if I don't instance with them I could just send a request via sys chat (I normally wouldn't but it's an option others do take advantage of regularly).
  3. The people I actively interact with in-game (can count them on one hand) will already have purchased it, as for the rest I'm not bothered. People on the in-game friendlist come and go, no big deal, and even now in Horizons everyone is largely doing their own thing.
  4. I'd say players who are hardcore enough to be actively involved in squadrons, BGS work etc. wouldn't pass up the opportunity to widen the options that EDO will bring in terms of both.
  5. In fact, based on the gameplay I've seen (even during the wonky Alpha) I might actually get more involved with other players in EDO going foward because it's a lot more engaging than what we currently have.
  1. Possibly not.
  2. Is there any other way?
  3. Most of my friendslist are there because I am usually uncomfortable with turning the request down so I end up accepting it a few weeks later.

It's crazy you have all these people here who whine and complain that they won't give Frontier money for Odyssey because the alpha was terrible for them and over in SC land which has been in alpha for 20 years or so Croberts tosses out jpegs and the faithful lap them up.

Probably not understanding what you are trying to get at but, why would I log out of Odyssey into Horizons in the first place if I have decided to go to a remote place in Odyssey using physical multicrew in another player´s ship, that also has Odyssey?
That kind of thinking is why people complain about “QA not doing their jobs.” It’s a rare mind that can think up such a scenario in the first place, but if you get enough people interacting with the game, such a scenario becomes inevitable.

They said it will only be 50 Ly Alpha.
There were Fleet Carriers.
They never advertised Odyssey as an exploration expansion - at least it didn't look like that to me.
Never had to relog in Alpha.
Also saw glitch graphics on some planets - but i wouldn't refund over it.
Never encountered Legs bugs.
Open was always glitchy.
and so on.

Will you really stick with Horizon and miss out on this:

I have to question you passion for Exploration if you do. Graphical update alone is worth all the money and more... No other game has ever accomplished anything like this...

There were fleet carriers ????????
I wonder what happed to mine then. My ships were everywhere except in my (missing) fleet carrier.
You not seeing bugs doesn't mean that there were not.
You question my passion for exploration with a picture ??? I was talking about real exploration content. Taking screenshots is not exploration at all...
I do not deny that the new graphic update has a lot of potential, but there are still a lot of glitches (at least with my 3070).

FYI, I do not want a refound, I'll wait and see how it goes before fully switching to EDO.

We will find out in 5 days
And for the moment it actually is unplayable 😂

Im half hoping the server crashes due to unexpected demand and nobody can download it on the first day. That will unite the salt spreaders from the told you so's, the doomsters and end is nigh and the ones who actually like the game. Perfect balance at last, only achieved with a DDOS or server crash.

Well, the thing is that the offered scenario (edge or not) does nothing to address the post it responded to: A counterpoint raised against the argument describing the upcoming release as a beta is that FDEV´s betas have never progressed into the main game, they have always been "wiped". What we have on the 19th is the "main game" and will not get wiped unlike actual previous betas.

The scenario described in response to that counterpoint is irrelevant because the situation would apply in the exact same way to both the current release situation described in the OP by Bruce and to the theoretical situation where PC EDH had also received the planetary tech on the 19th alongside EDO.

Team play was bugged as hell. Of course you would only know if you had someone to team up with. :p We didn't even report all the bugs, partly because we were told that the build was old and the state of trunk was much better. We'll soon see if that's the case.

Also this:

The chances that none of these bugs and glitches makes it into the beta are close to zero. I won't complain, because I know it's a beta and there's plenty of time between now and autumn to fix this. But others will, because they're being told it's a release.

Remember, the main reason why CDPR got so much heat after the botched launch of CP2077 was because they had told everyone that things were totally fine.
