Sry Frontier, iam a little bit dissapointed over the pricings for the "Addons" "Expansions" "DLC" what ever you want to call it.

Back in the days i pre-ordered Elite for 40€ now i have to buy this addon for an much higher price then the core game? Yeah it is nice that you give us a small price deduction, but it still cost 9,99€ more then the core game!? :(

Addtionally, is this addon standalone? So if a new player buys just Horizon, is he able to play it? Or is the purchase of the normal elite still required? I mean that are +80€ for a starting player. Not good if you want a big playerbase :( Lets not forget that feature extensions will divide the playerbase!

Bottom line, MMOs need money to pay their staff, to fix bugs and to keep the servers online. WOW, Eve etc all charge you a monthly amount, would you rather ED worked on that model because i wouldn't and i am sure there would be more outcry against that.
I'd be interested to see how you'd pay developers to work and to keep AWS server instances online, i am all ears....

It's priced like a full fledged AAA game so it needs to have as much content as a full fledged AAA game.

Gonna be a tough one since 1 year after its release even the base game is quite far from reaching that goal.

Good thing you can wait and see whats in it before making a purchase.

Better than a subscription fee IMHO

Because... FD needs money to keep developing this game?

As I understood it, the planetary landing stuff is the only thing that is locked out if you don't have the expansion. Other future features, like the promised 30 ships, will be available to everyone.

Lifetime Expansion Pass Price ?

I had to ask if this Lifetime Expansion Pass is the same as the one that was purchaseable during Beta for... 35£ ?

130£ is a really steep increase, and with the expansions priced at 40£ without discount I'm not even sure to break even.

Am I missing something ?

What, 40€ is a normal price for a full-fledged expansion. This is not the typical 1 hour DLC mission we have become used to in the recent years, but a traditional expansion pack merely delivered in smaller pieces.

£40 is a normal price for an expansion? What expansions are you looking at?

Skryim expansions - £20.
GTA IV expansions - £20.
Morrowind expansions - £20.

£40? No. I'll be holding onto my cash until I see if this is actually worth playing and worth more than they charge for the original game. The fact it comes bundled with the original Elite so I am, in effect, buying the game TWICE to get the new content is just crap and a £10 discount doesn't soften that blow.

also, i expect it means they will have to keep adding attractive content to keep people buying future expansions and stay in business

i just hope that content starts to involves more variety of life, personality, and character to the galaxy. and Lynx Bulk Carriers.

It's still a risk investment.

At the Alpha/Beta stage we knew nothing about the expansion (other than that it would include landings and walkies) you now have some details.

You have had a few months playing the main game post release to decide if it's of more value to you.

It's a lower risk for you.

If Frontier are able to pull off even a few years worth of "seasons" it may well be worth it.

It's to keep the riffraff from joining in. :D
Personally I think the expansion is very reasonably priced indeed. Cheaper than I thought !

I think... i think this is the first thing FD have done that has really annoyed me. Perhaps i will buy that lifetime pass just to avoid this in the future.

The obvious answer to the OP is the price is not high if it does what they say it will and it looks sweet, no the price is low for what it is.

Only if they're not offering a £10 discount on every expansion... Otherwise it's really not. Although the lifetime expansion does include beta access which is an extra £10. "That's right, you're now paying us to test our games for us. MUWAHAHAHAHA!" *ahem* Anyway, yeah.

I think they underestimated cost for all the expansions.
Also it could be that they wanted to give all their early backers a big discount. There are a few different answers for this.
With the new lifetime pass price being so high that tells me they have many big expansions planned for this game. Also its a very limited time offer and a much higher price.
They to my knowledge said the last one was a once in a life time offer for a life time expansion pass. They could of meant that would be the only time you could get it so cheap.
Just my thoughts on it :D

But Still even with the discount it still quite expensive for an expansion, and for the future players that wants both they must pay full prices which means they have to buy an expansion more expensive than the core Game 49.99 is the general price for a PC game expension are usually at least 10 euros cheaper sometimes a bit more here we have an expansion more expensive than the core game. And not everybody has the budget for that.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, Horizons is not just one expansion. It's a season of expansions.

You'll get planetary landings, the new "loot and craft" system coming Q1 2016 and probably tons of other stuff as well. It's the equivalent of 3+ expansions in other games

They're asking full price for what's essentially an early access expansion. "pay full price now and we'll promise to develop further content after you buy it and only receive basic functionality at first!"

Nope. That's extremely anti consumer as far as I'm concerned. If it goes like this year has for the base game updates then it'll stay shallow and fall short on almost all of its promises.

So no, I'm not planning on buying it atm. I'm still waiting for that content rich space sim that people who bought the game were promised. You know, passangers, in depth economy systems, finding dark solar systems and frame shift routes, persistent NPCs, etc.

well... WoW is ~15$ a month plus expansion costs.
That works out to well over 200$ a year.

E: D isnt subscription based so they do have to cover dev costs some how. 60$ a year is still much cheaper than 200$.

I think its fine.

I think its better to judge what it "is" once we have seen what it "is" heh.

The price is not high....15 costas, 8 pints of beer, half a ladies hair cut. Stop moaning man and buy the expansion.

Exactly like the man says!

Use the following system to rate how expensive an item is:

Small items: < Pint of beer = bargin, ~ Pint of beer = Okay, >> Pint of beer = Expensive, reconsider.
Large items: < Tank of petrol = bargin, ~ Tank of petrol = Okay, >> Tank of petrol = Expensive, reconsider.

Thats what I do. You don't think twice about filling your car or buying a pint, do you?
