Yes but the issue here is it's obvious they're doing a naff job! Yeah, speed through development and worry about all the bugs AFTER release. The speed of development should be a warning - FDEV are no better than any other dev team so maybe the question we should be asking is, what corners are they cutting or how complex is ED really?
So when you said: "Let me go fire up Armed Assault 3 which has a thousand times the content of ED. etc etc" you really meant: let me call a large group of players cows and freaks, and nag nag nag till daddy take my t-bird away?
People complain on forums when they see an obvious ripoff is an obvious ripoff. Because we're good people, we feel in necessary to point this out to the people who may not know what is going on.
You so awesome!!!

Thank you for sharing your pearls of wisdom with us poor freaky cows :)

People can say the price is too high, but we will not know if that is true until the expansion releases and we can judge the amount of content that is included. If FD really due release enough content to justify the $50 purchase, then this marketing strategy will work great, it will hook new players and greatly increase the number of players to what is a niche game. If it ends up being not worth the money then people will not purchase the next expansion and this will hurt FD in the long wrong. Only time will tell.

If you think about it, its no different then buying each COD game each year, or the new sports game each year, expect people will get way more for their money then those games. Even GW2 is using this exact same type of model. The Metro games did this, Killing Floor does this, and lots of others.

Personally I would have rather seen the expansion a set price (same price as what current ED players pay), and then just drop the base game to $10 when the expansion releases, it would stop this silly problem people have with "purchasing the game again".

NVM people seem shocked that latter purchasers get more game for less money, like some how that is a new thing. NVM it has been going on since this industry started, what do you think steam sales are.

It's priced like a full fledged AAA game so it needs to have as much content as a full fledged AAA game.

Gonna be a tough one since 1 year after its release even the base game is quite far from reaching that goal.

Are you serious? ED doesn't have as much content as a "full fledged AAA game." ???

What "AAA" games are you playing now days?! Even that saying itself has lost meaning, most indie games are better than the crap the big producers pump out with their "AAA" games.

It is my topic, but i did not created this poll... some sorcery is in the air... o_O

I think a couple of threads have just been merged without a word...
Great moderation.

Yeah sure, except we won't know what we have the day of the release : you're buying a year worth of features.
What features? Who cares!

Another point that should be mentioned as people seem to be missing it. Yes there are people here who will buy it whatever, like I said a few posts back but the amount of people saying they won't buy it is the real issue here. How many other publishers are releasing expansions with so much negativity and that, ultimately, is going to massively hurt their sales and that will also affect the future design of the game.

Well, based on the results of the poll on this page, about 60% of people here think the expansion price is fair. Another 20% think it's too expensive but will buy it on sale. The poll is missing an option for "I think Horizons is a little expensive, but not so unfair that I won't buy it." So, some of that latter 20% might fall into that category. But anyway, you have 60% fully satisfied, another 20% who are somewhat satisfied but not planning to throw up their hands and leave, or skip the expansion. That leaves you with 20% who are entirely dissatisfied. That's 20% on an internet forum - a medium not renowned for its positivity.

I wouldn't say that's "so much negativity." Besides, a quick Google search turns up a whopping zero articles describing the huge backlash against FD for their Horizons expansion.

But I don't do that... <_<

Frigging yes! I would do with that no problem - if we actually knew more about that "season" thingy and what's in it for that price.

So its the exact same as a pre-order, wow what a new thing. Straight from Halèks FD created this new thing called a pre-order.

So wait until you know what exactly the features will be, what you said does not change my statement at all.

They will put just enough content in there to make you want more ready for the next expansion pay day.

Always serve the cake in slices.

Before you complain about the price how much have you spent on skins in LoL?

Is this game worth supporting?

In my opinion I had tons of fun and the expansion cost is worth it.

Sry, but Guild Wars 2 dont sell unfinisehd assets or is doing early access stuff. They sold the Full game, and now they are selling the addon (for an cheaper price then the core game) when it is finished. Yes of course they do some "Beta" Weekends, but everyone has the chance to enter them without paying something (Insted of Elite).

Additionally they dont sell an Addon what is missing features you will only get when you buy expension two.

This is the business/pricing model Frontier needs to utilize if they want to succeed.

$60/base game. +$30 per expansion pack if you already own the game. For new users, $60 to buy in, and then $30 for each expansion after that.

Don't disincentive people from buying into the game as the current method does (you have to buy in when a new exp is released or you get hosed.)

People will gladly pay $100+ Net for your game, but you have to make it appetizing for both new and older players to keep paying for development. A higher pipeline retention rate (higher % of older users buying into each upcoming expansion) will lead to better results.

Yup, instead of having a few similar threads active we now have one big merged thread that no one can follow and lots of valid ongoing discussions get interrupted.

What are you talking about. GW2 sold a pre-order for the expansion. How is that different then what FD are doing? So you are complaining that ED does not have free weekends? Well that's a different issue then the price of the expansion. Also with the discount, you are not paying full price the game either.

No it's not. Usually the day I buy an extension (pre-ordered or not), I know what's in it or at least I have a good idea.
FD wants me to buy PL plus some other features over the year wich will be revealed one after another. Don't like them, too bad!
There is a slight difference.

EDIT : And since when do you sell a product without describing the product or giving details on what you're buying? That's insane!

I payed 40€ for the full game, with the discount i save 3€ wow...

It is not the same because the guild wars 2 addon is something finished. Horizon is a series of content patches for planetary landing that are arriving over time (maybe).

LOL such , you never, never know what all will be in a pre-order game. You clearly was not following GW2 because there was a lot of information not known before the pre-order started. Simple answer, then don't pre-order. No one is forcing you. If you don't feel like you have the information you need to make a purchase then don't. You are complaining about nothing.
