I would simply not do it b/c im pretty sure the expansion/patch will be about as fun as previus ones. My prediction is that landing on emty planets will get boring fast.

some planets will be empty like in real life , some will be full of rich detail

Having given it much thought, I've decided to clear my saved game on the launch day of Horizons. (just for the fun of it)
anyone else considering the same or am I the only loony around here?
I plan on checking the beta out and then the day the expansion hits, I'll do a clear save and begin from scratch.

The landing is rough
There was a bit of a comedown for me too (basically Rimmer's reaction at the end of the Red Dwarf episode Better Than Life) but I'm fine with it now.
Hopefully FD allow multiple Alt characters per account, so you don't need to reset hundreds of hours to begin anew.
Dude, I'm totally with you! I wiped my save as Horizon's launched. Hadn't played in a couple months and lost touch with my 'old' commander. Had about 90M in assets and a solid Python but I just love the whole start from scratch feel . Small missions, small ships - good stuff.
