Horizons Horizons update also update in game tutorials

Hi

I haven't played ED in a while so I decided to redo the tutorials but not sure if they are still fully valid

I have the horizons season pass

I've checked and my game is up to date

I see there are some changes to the e.g. exploration and mining advertised in the new update

Are the in game tutorials updated to be in sync with this ??

Thanks

HA ha ha... Oh, sorry were you not joking? ;)

They have produced a couple of updated training videos - I don't know if they updated the in-game exploration mission - never did it.

There are up to date guides in the Guides and Tutorials sub forum - I did one on the Exploration tools and there is a really good mining one from Lance.

Of course there are good well-produced yootoob offerings from Obs Ant and others too (my videos are not so professional).

I'm new. The training videos are practically useless if you're using Horizons. The training scenario (and especially video) instructions get better if you're on the PC and using a keyboard.

My favorite ED training video to date is the Navigational one. Finally found the ED training video pre dated back to 2014---before Horizons DLC.

Narrator: "increase your throttle by holding the button that is bound to increase throttle..."
Me: Why am I even watching this non intuitive, non tactile video? LMFAO....

BTW:
1. The vertical thrusters do. not. work when using a pc game pad controller. Especially if your landing gear is down and trying land on the chevron landing pad.
2. The lateral thrusters do. not. work when using a pc game pad controller. Especially if your landing gear is down and trying land on the chevron landing pad.

#2 is a real pain in the rear when you've spent some 20 mins real time trying to align your ship with the landing pad. Only to finally discover you can't lateral your way over to the landing pad that's to your adjacent right. And once you finally manage to reverse thrust/roll aka finally do, the NPC bay traffic controller decides to revoke your docking privileges permanently. Because you're taking too long to vertically thrust downwards. Because your vertical thrusters don't work according to their mapping to the controller.

I have not used that controller but: Have you tried setting the "Flight Landing Overrides" controls (or maybe it is because you have set "Flight Landing Overrides" ;) ). I use a HOTAS which has vertical and lateral thrusters so I don't have these set (uses default controls except forwards and backwards thruster rather than throttle) so you could have a look to see if using this (or not using this) helps.

BTW "Flight Landing Overrides" are active when the gear is extended - just in case that wasn't clear.

Thanks for the quick follow up.

What is "HOTAS"? Is this actual hardware equipment or your personal software control key setup?

Much to my chagrin, I have to admit I'm increasingly hopeless when using the keyboard to maneuver the ship. It simply isn't intuitive the way using a PC controller is. So I was really hoping I didn't have to switch over to using the keyboard. Bummer.

I also wish they would take the time to update those training vidoes. Fan based tutorials like Obsidian Ant and other Cmdrs is wonderful on Youtube. But they tend to go really fast and it's not possible to tangibly test/do what they're talking about without being in the actual game.

So I guess I'm stuck for the next couple of months in the tutorial simulator. Trying to coordinate my controller/keyboard flight controls so I don't blow myself up with millions in mining cargo whenever I try to dock...... :(

And the cyber ED god help me if I ever get interdicted or attacked by an NPC security/pirate faction while inbound to a station. I haven't the faintest clue on how to successfully maneuver or escape after giving them all my mining profits. >,<
