Hot takes for planet zoo

I genuinely don't think that's the case. Not only because we're just past the time that the obvious ABC animals are gone and that these packs were going to be divisive anyway; but also because Frontier was in very bad financial weather. It doesn't sound right that now would be the time to be experimenting, especially when it's quite likely PZ's support got extended due to the lack of other paid content.
I think that the ABC animal argument is exactly why they are experimenting and to be clear I think they have been making this transition for years not just recently. As more packs are made the amount of strong independently selling animals decreases so in order to be able to extend the life of a dlc based model it would make to save animals that could potentially sell dlc on their own for separate packs. Why have the kiwi and tree kangaroo in the same pack when either alone would sell similar numbers of packs. This wasnt a problem in the early days of dlc because there both was an assumption that planet zoo wouldnt last this long and there were plenty of choices in terms of animals but over the last 3 years dlc have been straying towards a middle ground of not what the community wants but also not bad choices with 1 maybe 2 strong picks.
If this were truly a case of them running out of basic animals they would be trying to highlight what strong contenders they have left and we would of seen the coati in americas and a pheasant in this pack something that no one can question is wanted.

Wanna hear the sad part?

If PlanZo doesn't get revived anytime soon with either a sequel or DLC, then a lot of the community is gonna dissolve. Sure, we'll have some hard-core players, some will be like me and come and go, but several will just move on the next big thing
TBH I’m probably still gonna be on the forum just because I love talking to all of you ❤️

But I’m bummed out over the fact I felt ignored until they (potentially) pulled the plug. I’m sure PZ2 will have birds, but I don’t know if I can wait years after its launch to wait for the white faced whistling duck.

or even basic waterfowl :/

Today's hot-take: PC2 being flop theory makes little sense.
We have been told about Americas pack being in works exactly week before PC2 launch. In that case, Frontier must have expected the first few months of PC2 to be rough, with PZ DLCs stepping in to fill the gap. Really weird for company to plan future developement.

Instead, I think we are simply looking at a coincidence with cause being incurred development costs reduction in early 2024 resulting in the Americas and Asia animal packs being postponed from their original summer and autumn release dates. The Zookeeper Animal Pack was initially meant to be the final pack, but since Frontier had to delay two packs coming before it, they adjusted DLC slightly turning it from a final farewell pack into an anniversary celebration pack.

Americas was announced to happen after Zookeepers' release.
Which was still one week before PC2 launch.
Edit: dates
15th October - Zookeepers Animal Pack launch
30th October - everyone thought its the end, but Frontier announces another pack coming to PZ
6th November - PC2 launch

Sure - October - Frontier Unlocked #10 - 30th September
Famous qoute coming from it: We did also have lots of speculation about Planet Zoo PC, so it was the zookeepers pack, everyone thought it was the end, but our team is continuing to work very hard. We dont want to give to much away, but there might be an animal pack next year.
People went crazy.

My Hot take thought is that PlanetZoo is not going to 'die' suddenly and with the best DLC,
but will die rather slow and long of players slowly being disinterested by less and less popular/crucial animals in DLCs and when 'anti-cloners' will feel scammed by getting more subspecies, still no fully aquatic or aerial animals bcs I think that all's gonna happen in PZ2.
So the fandom will be half shorter, full of rather diehard fans and builders or collectors that will be happy for any DLC or mods will take over and everyone just enjoying the game, not expecting marvels anymore.

I stand corrected then; weird that they then teased two times as if we didn't know about it the second time.

/frontier are honestly doing it too themselves if they had ended the game properly at eurasia 3 years later when the sequel released people would still be invested. Unlike now where so many people are now developing a sour taste for the state of planet zoo and are leaving the community and will see a new sequel so soon as a cash grab not as a legitimate upgrade.

You mean exactly whats happening now.

Not sure if this is a hot take, but: If this is the last pack, it is not doom and gloom but totally okay.
Yeah, I don’t think we would ever get some “grande finale” style pack. But to be fair, if I can be cynical and make a guess, the final pack having:
  1. All mammals
  2. Continues to add to the roster that already had great representation
  3. 0 birds or reptiles
  4. Very strongly thematic scenery, almost like a theme park over a zoo
  5. The ungulates all look Amazing
This does kind of feel like how I expected Frontier to operate. However, with that being said:
  1. The game isn’t “officially” over (we may not get an announcement either way)
  2. We have really good bird representation, arguably the best in almost all zoo games. It’s really only bad when compared to the rest of the roster. Zoo Tycoon 3 Ultimate Collection might have some legs up on it due to flying birds, but PZ has a good collection.
  3. Monkeys have been saved this past two years. A baboon, a new world monkey, and a good old world monkey is honestly a wonderful addition considering how long monkeys have otherwise suffered in the roster.
  4. The Spurred tortoise, and all DLC reptiles, are amazing, they cook every time.
  5. All the new hoofstock look great, and you will never run out of options for your zoo.
  6. The WTE can now be used in basegame, and the new butterfly is a cute addition to the roster. I love insects so call me a sucker.
I’m still “upset” about birds, but that just gives me a reason to buy the sequel. Which I am sure Frontier is counting on.
