HOTAS 4 Controls

I just got the HOTAS 4 for the PS4 but when I go to Safe Disengage, I hit triangle and nothing happens. I also tried hitting every other button on the thing and nothing let me safe disengage. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this the first flight stick I've purchased. Thanks.

Isnt' it triangle + up on the hat switch? You can hold down the triangle to bring up the context menu which should tell you what button/direction it's bound to. I've changed mine - so I may misremembering the original set up, but whatever you used to engage supercruise is the one you use to disengage.

Yes, triangle + up on the hat should disengage.

Also, so you don't boost on landing. Hold the O then hat down to deploy landing gear.. :0

That is the one that really peeved me, but I'm use to the control now.

I'll give that a try thanks. Also is there a way to make the throttle more sensitive. It's hard to land when I jump from 2 to 15 with nothing in between. Thanks.

I'd suggest switching it up once you're familiar enough.

My current buttons:

Hat button - thrusters Ascend/descend, lateral
o = boost
o + hat button = system/engines/weapons pips

Those buttons on the back of throttle I've put as Cargo scoop and landing gear

I still haven't decided what to do with the rudder. I don't see much use for forward and back thrusters. The rest of the controls are pretty good, although switching hardpoints is a bit awkward.

Just to confirm, on the PS4 Controller you only need to hit the Triangle to safely disengage, not triangle up (but triangle up does work,) so it's a little odd Triangle alone doesn't work on the Hotas 4 :-(

You can configure the HOTAS 4 to only need triangle though. It is odd it doesn't work out of the box that way but it only took a few seconds to make it work.

I have a persistent jitter on my stick (matron). Someone said you can set the 'deadzone' to allow for minor jitter. How do you do this?

More specifically, in the Controls section there is an option for FSD going into either Supercruise or Hyperjump or dropping you out of Supercruise, depending on what you have targeted. If you have a different star system targeted, it will Hyperjump. Otherwise, this option will put you into or out of Supercruise. On the DS4 that option is set to Triangle, but for some strange reason it's not set on the HOTAS, so go in and add it!

I remapped triangle to landing gear. It makes sense to me as I think of my landing gear on the bottom and the triangle is the lowest button on the throttle. As it's out of the way of the other buttons, if I am not deliberately reaching for it, I know I am not getting it right so it helps me avoid boosting in the station.

I have 'toggle FSD' as circle + HAT up. Circle on it's own is boost, circle + HAT left is hyperspace, circle + HAT right is supercruise. All these relate to 'travel faster' so make sense in my mind and I don't have think about it. I thought at first I would only ever need toggle but as time went on I realised having supercruise and hyperspace on their own buttons is often required for me.

I would highly recommend coming up with your own mappings for the HOTAS. I think it really helps to make it your 'own'.
