HOTAS + Oculus (What have you found most comfortable/Easy to use?)

X52, dk2, Ch pedals.

I'm in the process of deciding whether to upgrade to the X55 or warthog right now as the throttle hat on my X52 is starting to feel "funny." This is after many years of use in dcs, il-2, x:3 Terran Conflict/Albion/Reunion. Between just those X games I have about two thousand hours played over the years, so I can't complain about the longevity of the saitek sticks.

I am most likely going to get the X55 as I have read about the stickion problem with the warthogs. When they get that sorted, ill demote the x55 to the PC that will get the demoted dk2 so when I have company they can play vr awesomeness too.

Hi Lads,

I've been looking around for the past few days and comparing testimonials on HOTAS setups as i'm currently just using a thrustmaster 1600m.

So far i've come down to the X-52 pro or X-55 by Saitek but can't quite decide.

Ergonomics aside, my main interest with anyone elses experience with this is how well they find the buttons on the Throttle of both HOTAS setups, as when you're in the Oculus, anything that isn't directly on the controller itself becomes a bit difficult to master.

So if there is anyone out there that is using either the X-52pro or the X-55 with the Oculus Rift, would you mind sharing your experience with the general ease-of-use when it comes to hitting the myriad of buttons these devices come with?

Cheers

Can't really comment on the Saitek Sticks as I've never used them. Found a Warthog and Slaw Device Pedals to be a perfect combination, mainly because both are very precise and the Warthog has enough buttons and switches to not use VA.

Cheers again for all the feedback, it's becoming a good collection of experience for any future VR owners.

As a tidbit on how the performance has gone with the X-52 (non pro) so far, it's been very good.
There is obviously a few switches on the base of the joystick which are a bit of a hassle to try and use so far but the Throttle has made all the difference, keyboard was driving me nuts.

I started to experience some squeaking that occurred after some heavy play time (2x 6 hour~ sessions) and it was from the plastic ring at the bottom of the spring, that rotates around the base device. After trying some suggestions from around the place, I can heavily recommend generic chapstick.

Applied a small amount, cleanly, around the underside of the ring and where it rotates around / contacts. After a week of good use, I haven't had to apply any more so it's lasting quite well (just a shame it even had to have that in the first place though).

Collaborating with a friend at the moment to design and build a chair that sits you in similar fashion to the Elite dangerous cockpit, so if things go according to plan I might upgrade to the Warthog later on down the line. :)

Once you get into it you will find your way around the buttons you need on your hotas.

My setup is DK2, HotasX modded with an analog thumbstick on the throttle and pro flight rudder pedals.

The thing that made this setup work for me was when i figured out the use of a Shift button, this way i can have two functions for each button except the shift button itself, heres how i have it set up:
The shift button is called just that and marked with red, other red marked functions need to have the shift button held down to activate.

Another very useful tip i can give is to put dots of blue tac on your keyboard, i use a dot on alt, v, tab, f4, backspace and enter and that makes me able to orient my hands on the keyboard well enough to never have to remove the DK2 in game.

MaximusPrimus: thats a really sweet setup, looking at building something like it for myself but for the moment my two ikea svartåsen laptop tables connected by a velcroed board on which my keyboard sits is alright :)

Thrustmaster Warthog flight stick and throttle (mounted on a flight/driving sim pedestal), MFG Crosswind V2 pedals (mounted on the base of afore mentioned pedestal), Voice attack, DK2 and Turtlebeach Z300 Wireless headset.

Pure magic.

When configuring your Hotas x52 or X55 and assigning buttons, don't forget that Elite allows you to press more than one button simultaneously allowing you to effectively have a "mode switch" capability and thereby have each button do different things depending on whether you have a mode button pressed.

For example, you could have several throttle buttons define many different modes for your joystick buttons. I wish all games had this fantastic feature.

Didn't realise that. Thanks for the info.

Similar here, Thrustmaster Warthog, Saitek Pro-Flight Rudder pedals (will replace one day, not a fan of this company), Voice Attack, DK2 and LG 4K TV running 3840x2160 for desktop. Love my Warthog and lets me play A10C with DCS as well :)
