How about some new ships and finally getting up off our chair inside our ships?

So we can walk around our ships, instead being a cockpit?

After all, "Space Legs" were never about "walking up and down the stairs", like that one disingenuous FDEV member falsely claimed...

Friend we haven't gotten new ships in 6 years...we're never getting anything like this. No space legs, no full atmosphere planets, no ship interiors. Never getting anything like that. Fdev has abandoned development of this game

I think it's inaccurate to say they've abandoned development of this game. I think it's more accurate to say Frontier are't going to develop the game the way a huge section of the community want them to.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't let us walk around the cockpit to be honest. Just the cockpit, while parked. It'd be the easiest, most minimal interpretation of interiors they could do (like how "atmospheric landings" became "tenuous atmospheres") and would muddle the debates on it even further. I guess they'd rather just not give the topic any oxygen at all.

Been a while since we had one of these

I guess it's time for another Cobra Mk4 thread

New ships and ship interiors are an often-requested addition to this game. I suspect that development resources are limited and that it's very hard, if not impossible, for FDev to justify increasing those resources to shareholders, so that substantial updates can keep coming at the same time that new ships and significant new features are being added. This was before my time so I'm just going on what I've heard, but apparently this lack of resources was why updates were so insubstantial during the period when the Odyssey DLC was being developed. Unfortunately it seems that some managerial types ordered that the Odyssey DLC be released before it was fully cooked and ready, thus it got a bad reception, and so those same suits who pushed it out to soon are probably using that same poor reception that they caused as justification to avoid more adventurous development of the game (typical management logic).

This is largely speculation however, since I've come to understand FDev are ridiculously bad at communicating with the people who play their games, or at least Elite players. It's as if they like to use silence to provide plausible deniability for their inaction and poor decisions. FDev's motivations and decision-making processes are a black-box and for the most part we are left guessing.

I love this game, but the chosen communication style of the company behind it really sucks.

You can always walk around the cockpit since long, provided you got VR* and enough physical space behind you, but tbh, it's great but gets old in no time.

So buy a VR rig and find out yourself!

Besides, great to see you again @GraXXoR and even the profile pic is the trademark one again! ;)

O7,
🙃

* wireless headset preferred, but most are that type todays (pros and cons as always). I use a Meta Quest 2 and Virtual Desktop. Otherwise, you'll need a really long cable, in particular with the Corvette.

I'd love ship interiors and walking around ship but you have to imagine the huge amount of work it would require. Designing interior of Sidewinder is easy, I guess. But do that with Beluga Liner or Anaconda. You either have to basically develop interior so big, full of detail, with rooms everywhere or just create an empty corridor that would lead you to exit. So please decide what you want. Do you want to explore whole ship or just get straight corridor. If the first - too much work for too little gain, IMO. You'd see interior once and later click button to skip manual exiting because journey would take you couple of minutes just to exit. If second - why even bother?
I think that FD could experiment with adding interiors only to small size ships and later see how playerbase uses this feature and whether it is actually worth it to develop it further.

Wouldn't it be much cooler to get fully working visible damage models so that you can actually see the damage and stuff falling off a ship when killing it?

i'd prefer that to ship interiors, but it would assume some sort of ship interiors in the first place
and iirc Anaconda has a sort of more developed damage model than the rest of the ships

AFAIK, all the ships have damage models but it's only the anaconda which has a visual component to it.

Personally I'd much prefer that to walking around the ships. Of course if we one day get EVA and boarding of derelict ships, I won't complain!
