Newcomer / Intro How am I to earn credits

This is a completely serious question. No newcomer can possibly EVER hope to compete now that passenger missions have been nerfed.

Decent pay for an hour's trip is not unreasonable. 300k now. What pray tell, Should I buy with that. Hello? Oh wait, bounties.... no, can't afford to outfit a ship on dust and a smile... Thargoids? Hmm, aside from the questionable issue of randomly attacking something that doesn't attack me first, noo... because you can't do that on 300k credits either, let alone the rapair costs that make that recreation for the deep pocketed. I generally avoid these forums like the plague due to their uncommonly high vitriol, but really, there is no manual, great, I don't like formulaic pap anyway. But what can I do to earn money? There were only ways mentioned in the livestream to spend money, not earn any. Mining? Git Gud lads would make short work of that. Oh, right, play in Solo and have the NPCs with rail guns, no overheating issues and infinite ammo get me instead. Charming.

Spend the next 4 months scraping together for a ship of compromise is not a valid response, sorry. Git Gud folk and other less aggressive players are grandfathered into a higher tax bracket. The beyond improvements look lovely, I am otherwise thrilled and it looks to be a great way to extend playability to the game.... if you can afford to.

As with anything here I expect to get flamed faster than.... a new player trying to scrape together some cash. Great work (PSA, that last bit shoud be done in your best Yamiks voice).

I wish I had a good answere for you young jedi:D
Seems ED is bent on eliminating use (at least logical use) of large ships, which means you are stuck with small ship missions unless you like driving a cutter like a downtown bus stopping every 15 seconds for the $150.00( too much by the lemmings standards) :x
Find your self a decent jumper and do some exploration before the creepy old lady types complain about that as well. Exploration does pay well but can be a bore sober.

Remember that bit of advertiesment on ED home page (Still there) that says the following:
PLAY YOUR WAY
400 BILLION STAR SYSTEMS. INFINITE FREEDOM. BLAZE YOUR OWN TRAIL.
Upgrade your ship and customize every component as you hunt, explore, fight, mine, smuggle, trade and survive in the cutthroat galaxy of the 34th century. Do whatever it takes to earn the skill, knowledge, wealth and power to stand among the ranks of the Elite.

Well thats subject to change without notice:O

Frontier Developments: If you're not GRINDING, you're not having FUN! [wacko]

At least now, with the "improvement" in planetary shading I have just a tiny bit more incentive to go exploring before FDev decides we're not spending enough time shooting at flowers and decides to nerf that. What? The Asp-X has too much jump-range? o7

The prices of the ships haven't changed. When the game was first released basic trade missions were paying 15k cr. It's a marathon not a sprint. Play at your own pace, but there is no going from spring chicken to hawk in 2 weeks

If you were lucky. Many paid a couple hundred. Fuel and repair prices were MUCH higher. Elite condas paid 10k or thereabouts. You can earn in one hour what I earned in MONTHS. And its not enough because the exploit that got people two condas (one of the most expensive ships in the game!) per hour got removed? Get outta here, clowns.

Hey OP, your posts are like poetry, we need more. I'd give you rep again but we have a cap on that type of thing.
Now I know you "generally avoid these forums like the plague due to their uncommonly high vitriol", but stick around though ey.

That means you earn a cobra mk3 in one mission. One. Do a couple of those and you can buy half the ships in this game. After the first day. And hell, you still earn MILLIONS per mission if you know what to do and where. How about you stop grinding youtube guides and learn how the game works? :)

agreed

I asked this same question in the Discord server and all the answers I got were predicated on me already having money. My point was, if I switch platforms, I will have nothing. My helpful answer was "to work for it"
I have no problem with that, but doing what? A valid question to which, I was kicked for asking.

Kick them back.

Credit grabs will come and go. Catch the next wave

grandfathered

It makes me sad that you've ended up in a position where this is how it's started for you - this should be a period of all fun and new discoveries! Plus yeah the forums often stink so I really hope this doesn't accidentally come over like some kind of rough ride.

There a bunch of options for you at the very start - data missions can pay well and go easily alongside trade until you can afford to upgrade your ship to the point where rares running and going long distance becomes a thing. Vipers are great for a fight or haulers can do allsorts and make great explorers and you can start out into the black, then that gets you to Cobra territory and the game is your oyster.

It's great fun and hopefully you'll find things you enjoy a lot along the way. Never be afraid to ask for help - eg. the mining thing you don't have to drop into the REZ sites - you can do it anywhere so go far away or drop in and fly a few km off and you'll be all but alone. We've all gone through it or are going through it - it can look like everyone's as you say grandfathered into somewhere beyond but mostly it's big showy people in big showy ships like to be big and showy. Vast numbers - vast - of the old hands are in medium and small ships still because the game's fun at every stage and the money and the big ships.... pretty much just a distraction.

Hope that's of some help

Irony?

At any rate, in lieu of a rant with an excessive use of the word "entitled", I'll simply add to what others have said; credits are much easier to make now than they ever have been. Sorry, but your entire post bares a striking resemblance to my nephew when he wants candy at the checkout. Newcomers can do what I did, put in the effort to build rank, rep, skill and understanding; they're the only limiters on income, not a personal vendetta by FDev to exclude new players (great business model btw).

As with anything here I expect to get flamed

Then why post?

Just as a side note, 3 decently developed players I know and played with quit the game today and deleted it.

The quote from one was "F--- Fdev and their secretive nerfing B-------"

I'm honestly a little stunned.

I will keep plugging at it, I Honestly love the game to much to give it up
As for entitled, yea well, tell that to the guys with billions, ijs

They usually remove even the first letters of swear words followed by dashes around here. Sometimes they replace em with fluffier words, other times just leave it blank.

HAH! Did they flounce out too just to keep up the levels of drama?

Meh, sod 'em.

If they reacted like that then it's no wonder you've ended up a little skewed, I imagine that's proof of what they were up to lol

So unfortunately the ways of making money are not super lucrative....
Without taking advantage of essentially explots like this its slow going.
Legit ways of making money:
1. Trading
- Trading: You can be a trader and trade your way up. even in a cutter fully geared your looking at around 2-3 million per trip you make.
- Mining: You can mine and then sell that. Not sure the profit for it. This can be dangerous though due to pirate npc's.
2. Combat
- You can do various typs of combat like massacure missions or usually just bounty hunting. This is dangerous.
3. Community Goals
- Partaking in the community goals is a good way to make money. And you can double dip (make money doing the goal and make money from the goal itself).
4. Missions
- You usually need to reach allied and also get higher rank (elite status) to unlock the higher paying missions but these can pay couple million or so.

Personally I traded my way to the cutter and corvette....I don't think I did a single community goal till I already had my vette and cutter fully outfitted.
I definately feel your pain though....these ARE slow ... and vastly slow in comparison to what passanger missions were giving.

I own about 124 million credits worth of hardware. A Sidewinder, a Cobra Mk III, a Keelback, and two Asp Explorers, one that's worth about a third of my net worth. I'm about to buy a Type-7 Transporter once this war I'm involved in ends and I can sell off my Asp's combat package. Point is, I think I've done 50 passenger missions, and all but one were Pleiades evac missions, which average about 50k-150k. Elite is a game that requires effort. First to learn it, and then to get those nice ships. This isn't Assassin's Creed, where you can finish off in a couple weeks. I've been playing this game daily since it came out 7 months ago on PS4.
