How big file wise was alpha 4

The actual game once installed currently takes 3.14GB, though I'm not sure whether that's smaller during download due to compression.

One thing that I've only just noticed though is that it installs the main files in your user/Appdata/Local folder for some weird reason. Only the launcher appears to live in the installation folder.

The launcher is only 14mb but afaik the launcher downloads more. So can't say for sure how much is downloaded.

Arghhh ... been waiting so long for the Beta to open and now the installer is coming in at 400kb/s .... sooooo slow .... going to be midnight when it's done :p

The original BBC model B version was even less than 38k

the Beeb only had 32k of RAM, yes 32,768 bytes.

For comparison, an empty MS word document (yes empty with no text in) is 12,504 bytes

The screen display used mode 5 (IIRC), which itself used 10,240 bytes leaving just 22,528 bytes for the computer & game to operate in, or in other words, less that 2 empty word documents!

Now, that's real programming for you !

My launcher says it's coming in at 0.15-0.24 MB/s - now about 75% complete. So no more than about 30 minutes or so I guess... Just posting to pass the time.

Do you see, Mr Braben, do you see what you have wrought?! :D

The BBC model B was a grand old machine. I remember mine fondly.

I had read that the original Elite was taking less space than an email today
