  • It's about right as is, players should be able to take on two or three NPCs.

  • It's too hard already, I can only kill 100 NPCs for each time I die!

I myself find the game to easy, But I also have more hours in game than many others do. But Elite is a hard game to balance for all gamers levels of skill. I would like to see Elite a lot more dangerous, but this then disadvantages other players that are not as skilled as others and then the game becomes less enjoyable and in the end losses player base cause of that.

Honestly I think Elite is as dangerous as it is going to get without rocking the boat to much for either side of the fence. As others have said, and I also have done a few times now, can either use a less capable ship (E rated or such equipement to make it a challenge) Re-roll your Cmdr (Have done this 3 times since game went live and within weeks I am rolling in credits and ships) when your bored with how powerful you are or want to play ironman mode (Would love to see an option for this where your save is deleted at rebuy screen).

But all in all, I prefer to see FD work on the issues of bugs and such along with the current to be released Horizons over any more tailoring of difficulty. There are enough issues to keep them busy without throwing more changes at them which will bring even more issues hehe.

I have to agree with this. The ones who've spent hundreds of hours in-game are going to think it's not dangerous enough. The ones who've just started are going to think it's too dangerous and the ones in between are going to think it's just about right. I vote, if my vote counts for anything (which it probably doesn't), is to leave it the way it is now concerning difficulty.

I don't give a rat's behind how hard/easy the game is.

All I care about is how many Cr/hour I can make bounty hunting...from 1.3 to 1.4 bounty hunting is slightly less profitable now. The bounties have been increased but the difficulty has been significantly increased.

If there is no buff to bounty hunting in 1.5, I will have to switch to a trade cutter for maximum cr/hour.

It's much easier to start fresh, trust me I know! (I start fresh everytime I die) ESPECIALLY if you score lucrative courier mission.
The last ten times I started over, one time Trevithick station offered me a courier mission to transfer 4 tonnes of slaves to some joint close by and I got like 89K for it, 1 mission! bye bye Sidey!

I read your post & my first thought was that it was a little sad that it would be so easy to progress through the early stages.

But then I realised it's brilliant, because you or I (ie someone who already has a good idea of the risks) can get back in the game fairly quickly following a 'lost it all' moment, but for a completely new player they would assume it was too good to be true & pass that mission by. Or take it & get scanned & learn a valuable lesson ;)

One day I will start again, it's one of the best bits of the game.

I'm doing long range smuggling atm, seems to offer the highest cr/hr while also being fun (if you take the courier missions, you have to get 300LY in ~25minutes without being caught). Sadly the really high paying ones have been temporarily cut back but it's still the best way to earn money I think.

I would like more danger added to be able to die flying into a planet/star in SC. Past a certain speed, the emergency stop should not kick in.

It should be a hard, complex, cruel struggle where every credit counts, every minute is precious, and even good pilots are almost afraid to leave the dock.

IMHO the best and most dedicated of the Elite should be just about able to afford an Anaconda now after 12 months of play. Most of us should be chattering about how cool it is to finally be flying a Viper or Cobra, and the most celebrated explorers should just be reaching Maia.

Easy game is too easy.

I think that's just a bit too hard. You'd have quite a few people quitting because of it. I do agree it should be more dangerous than it is now, but going too far is just as bad as it being way too easy. They both cause boredom. It's a very fine line the developers have to walk. I know, cause I walked it myself when I ran a Freelancer Discovery server and fell off the too easy side. Which resulted in ADMIN only ships costing billions when they should have cost somewhat less than 1 billion. And there were quite a few requests for them. But it got too easy and about half the people stopped playing on that server.

I completely agree, and I think it's harder again with 2.0 (difficult to know whether it's because of my rank though). I could live with this if the NPCs followed the same rules as us, but the with the last couple of updates it's starting to become more obvious they are not travelling in space in the same way we are but are simply re-spawned in a convenient new location improbably far from where they were.

So far there is only one reason I'm enjoying Horizons, and that's because there is a real sense of risk involved in Exploration now.

I was buggying my way down into a crater last night that ended up being steeper in the middle of the slope than I had anticipated. It was gargantuan, but I thought I was safe because it was a low-g world. Despite being as careful as possible I slipped, bounced, and started a tumbling fall. I fell for 30 seconds and bounced off the side of the crater 5 or 6 times, desperately trying to stop the tumble only to make contact and go into a spin again. I finally skidded to a halt with 14% of my SRV hull left and I still had a third of the crater to go, plus a good half a mile along the bottom before things smoothed out enough to recall my ship.

Haven't had a good adrenaline rush like that in months. It was as good as some of the better PvP fights I've had. The more of these moments that can be found in the game, the better.
