how do i find if a station has a specific commodity for sale?

ive looked at the galaxy map/system view, and clicking on a station says what they import/export... is that all they have or just what their main sellers are?

eg. im at frigaha. i want coffee. how do i find out where it is? (toggling just coffee in the trade view shows just some green lines, and everywhere they go seemingly the stations there sell none)

youre right. thats not particularly efficient. lol

when youve got a time limit on a mission, and supercruise to some locations can take 15mins (thats the longest ive done so far) its beyond frustrating to not be able to know what they stock beforehand.

Ok, first step is to check this (I keep a printed copy handy)

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Goods

Then use the Galaxy map tools to locate that type of system.

thanks for that.

is it possible to narrow system finding down to 'list all agricultural planets' ?

my tactic is fly somewhere, then swear at the screen when they don't have it.

Not particularly efficient, but it works in the end :p

This is my personal method of commodity discovery, you need to get the swearing just right for it to be effective.

There is no way to know ahead of time exactly what commodities a station will buy or sell, if you want to take missions that are requesting a commodity, it's best to fly around the area and determine what commodities are sold at stations before accepting the mission.

You will start to see a connection between the type of station and the commodities they sell. Then you will be able to use the system view to see what stations are around.

You can also use the trade overlay in the galaxy map, which will show you where commodities are coming from. You can get that data by flying to a system, or paying 100 credits to get that information. Of course, that doesn't tell you if that item is currently sold out at that system. The only way to know for sure is to dock there and check.

dont think ill bother with those missions just yet then.

I use this little stand alone tool called Cmdr's Log.
Can take notes and even record an entire commodities list from each station you visit.
Awesome tool and helps a heap when you're looking for specific stuff.

Find more about it here: CMDR'S LOG TOOL

Hope this helps.

A couple of things to bear in mind, make sure you go to the right end of the line, they are animated to show the flow of goods.

Also the line shows what goods come from a system, not what station, and they are not all the same in a system. Stations above different planet types can have different goods. So be sure to check the system view as well.

does the colour of the line mean anything?

does the colour of the line mean anything?

Yes, the colour is the main category like Metal, Minerals, Food etc.

Also if you click the arrow head to the right of the main heading it expands to show all the individual item types. So you can make the search product specific, by deselecting what you don't want.

For example pick up a mission for Indite and another for mission for Animal Meat then deselect everything else except those two items and when on your travels you will only see lines on the galaxy map for the things you are interested in.

Of course you could still get there and find they are out of stock, but at least you know the places you can expect to find certain goods.

Saying use the trade lane information on the galaxy map would be all well and good if it wasn't bugged.
Galaxy map tells you that a system exports a specific commodity, got to the systems and not only do they not sell it but it's prohibited

Use a third party tool, they're more reliable.

For most items it lists it in the commodities on the right hand side... where they import from and export to. So if they have zero stock but usually import from "system x" ... go there and you'll get what you're chasing *most times* :)
