How do I launch in VR without Steam (already have a CMDR there)

I have several alt accounts that are Frontier accounts only. Problem is I recently got a Valve Index and I LOVE it on my Steam CMDR, but I want to play my other accounts.

I don't see anything in the 3D settings that has anything for VR. All it shows is 3D settings for a flat monitor. Am I looking in the wrong place? Where would I go and how would I go about getting to enjoy ALL my accounts in glorious 3D?

I have the headset active, it is using Steam VR to turn on. There is a high possibility I may be missing something turning it on.

When I open the 3D settings it offers either Off, Anaglygh, or Side by Side. I even tried launching it in the SteamVR menu

Now, if you're inquiring if I can launch VR on Steam, yes I can. It goes quite nicely. Problem is, if I use it for my Frontier only account CMDRs, I can either play in a flat screen, or without VR.

If I understand correctly, you’re trying to launch Elite from the stand-alone Frontier launcher?

If you start up SteamVR first so your headset is on, then start the Frontier launcher and start up Elite - is the “HMD headphones” option still missing? (You may have to scroll down the 3D sub-options after clicking it)

I don’t have an Index but Quest users who have had a similar problem have solved it by launching the game from the virtual desktop view in the headset, thus ensuring the goggles are definitely “on” when the game starts.

This. (y)

I'm one of them, with Elite Horzions Legacy.

EDIT
and this is how it was solved ( by Arioch the VR god)

That's what gets me. I am launching with the HMD on the virtual desktop. I AM however using MinEDLauncher, if that would cause issue

I’ve not used the mini-launcher but one of the arguments that it can use is /vr - does that help at all?

That's how its done with the regular launcher, at least. Add /VR to the launcher's command line. Sounds like it works the same in mini. Still launches SteamVR, but for the non-steam commander. Or one could use OpenComposite (OpenXR) to bypass SteamVR for better performance.

I don't know if the Valve index can run without Steam but if it can and you don't want to always use Steam try downloading and installing OpenComposite then you can use its switcher to run in either OpenComposite (OpenXR) or Steam

For Minimal ED Launcher with Frontier Launcher and VR to play Odyssey, your target line should be something like this -

C:\path\to\MinEdLauncher.exe /frontier profile-name /autorun /autoquit /edh4 /vr

As others have said, basically you should only need to add /vr to the end and start the game from within SteamVR. The game should now start up in VR, but if not, you should now be able to see in the 3D settings HMD Headphones.
