How do I scan high and low Wake fields?

Hi there community, I have a couple of questions that I would appriciate if somone could help me with.

Firstly, I appologise if these have already been answered, I have actually tried to search for them on the interwebs and on the forums but with no luck.

My first and most important request is that somone gives me a detailed description as to how low and high energy fields work.
I understand that when somone hyperspaces that it leave a wake field that can be scanned to determine where their destination is, I also understand that when somone goes to cruise, or drops out of cruise that a wake field is left.

This is my golden question ...

I am trying to follow a friend of mine (we are both in cruise), and he drops out of cruise into 'normal space', a wake field is left, however if I try to drop out of cruise at the correct speed and distance to his wake field, it tells me it wont do it as I have not scanned the wake field. I tried buying a wake scanner which does not seem to work whilst in cruise, but does seem to depoy whilst in normal space (I assume this will work fine if I try to scan a wake in 'normal space' although I have not tried it yet.

HOW do I can a wake field whilst in CRUISE?

What I am trying to do ultimatly, is beable to follow my friend, or any ship into 'normal space' when they drop out of CRUISE.

My secound and last question is I have a 2 seater ship (cobra 3), is it possible for my friend to enter the ship with me?

Thank you for your time in reading this.

1.- You can scan wakes when in regular speed, not during SC.
2.- No, nobody can enter your ship or vice versa -at least not at the moment, think I read somewhere that it's proposed but that's down, down in the list of fixes.
3.- Not really sure how to help with the drop out of SC question. It is easy to do if both are going to the same station, nav or resource point, but don't think it will work for USS's. Reason being is that USS's spawn for each one individually.

Hope this helps!

Thankyou for taking the time to reply.

So you are saying that it is not possible for human players to play together apart from in the main locations like beacons/nav points/resource points?

If I am following a human player, and he drops out of cruise, its then impossible to follow him?

I am saying I am not sure how would it work cause I have never played with a friend. I suggested to visit navs and stations and stuff like that because at least those are the same for you and them.

But it should be possible...it is only hard to drop at the same place.

High Energy Wake Fields spawn when a target transitions into hyperspace or wormhole tunnels to different systems from normal space. Low Energy fields are the result of a target dropping from this higher-energy state to normal state. The Low fields can be locked on in supercruise and used as a way to drop onto a frame shifted target that has remained in system. If you see a high field in supercruise, there is currently no way to scan the target's destination system. When you drop on the field, it is removed from contacts upon transitioning to normal space.

You can target your friend's low wake and drop out of SC at the same place. I've done this many times. It can be a bit tricky stopping at the right place however, as the auto slow down when the throttle is in blue doesn't work all that well for low wakes...

If you're both in supercruise and you want to follow them into normal space, you don't need a Wake Scanner. Just target their Low Energy Wake and slow down/drop out of supercruise as appropriate.

The Wake Scanner is for following someone's High Energy Wake. You target it and scan it. Then hyperspace jump with the wake selected and you will follow the ship to their destination system. As noted above, it currently doesn't work in supercruise.

Thankyou all for the time of your replies.

The thing is, I followed my friend and seen the wakefield left by him (I dont recall wether it was high or low) but I could have sworn down that it was his. But upon approching it ready to drop in, it would not let me, it said it needed scanned, and would not let me scan it in cruise.

Can anyone here confirm 100% that you can drop in on a friends 'drop from cruise 100%?

it was a high energy wake, and yes you can drop to a low wake from SC.
