Newcomer / Intro How do I view my PP merits?

I just pledged for the first time in PP. I went to a Federation controlled system in ALD space and started killing the other factions ships labeled "Enemy." However, I cannot for the life of me see where I can view how many merits I've accumulated while I am in my ship flying around. I'm sure it's simple, but I simply cannot find it.

So, where can I view the total number of merits that I've accumulated while I'm flying around in my ship?

Edit: Also, either I just cant find how to redeem my merits, or I earned 0 even though I killed about 15 ships labeled "Enemy." I know there are a ton of 90-page PP guides, but can someone just give me the quick and dirty to merits? I thought killing enemy ships would earn them, but apparently not.

Your rating is a tab on your Powers page, under Galactic powers in the navigation panel.
Killing enemies doesn't get you merits. Undermining does. Check who to kill on your rivals PP page under control and expansion page.

Im in a system that has the "undermining" and "fortifying" symbols over it on the galactic map and killing enemy ships. Is this not the way you are supposed to undermine? I still havent received any merits. Im in Lunti right now. I was in Negrito at first, but again no merits.

Edit: Im heading back to Amitrite to bounty hunt. This is just getting annoying.

You can check how many vouchers you've accumulated, before turning them in, by checking your claims on the left hand panel. You turn in the vouchers at a system controlled by your power. You can check for the closest one easily on your chosen power's control screen under Galactic powers. Also convenient for finding close enemy controlled systems for undermining.

You can easily check your merits you have on the first screen of the right hand panel.

Ok, so I found a "crime sweep" and finally earned some merits. I was still hoping to find a way to earn merits through interdictions, since I find that to be much more fun than grinding in what is essentially a CZ. But hey, at least it's progress.

If you're pledged to ALD, you can't earn merit by intercepting federal agents in ALD control system. You can only earn merit by undermining enemy control systems.

In the powerplay main menu, you can select an enemy power and check its control system to find the nearest one, and only once you are there, you can earn merits by interdicting and shooting enemy ships.

Be careful not to intercept any other imperial ships if you're pledged to an imperial power (for instance, killing Aisling Duval agents if you're pledged to Denton Patreus, you will lose merits).

Any other enemy power will earn you 30 merits per kill, which will appear in the transaction tab on the left panel.

Also note that merit points in the transaction tab need to be cashed in any of your faction's control system before the powerplay cycle ends on thursday morning (at least morning in the UK).

You can do it by interdictions, but not any ships. The ships have to be labelled as official faction ships. They won't have a normal sort of NPC name. Instead, they will have a title of some sort, like Bureaucrat.

Thank you for the insightful post, it helps quite a bit. Last question I have is this: how does it work with maintaining your rank in a PP faction? I want to figure out that fine balance between getting merits, and actually playing the game and using AFLs bounty hunting bonus to make money.

The new launcher has training videos for PowerPlay.

To receive combat merits in PP, you MUST destroy only those targets mentioned under "How To Undermine" for a rival Power. This appears on the rival's expansion and control page.
You must constantly keep getting merits to support your level in PP. If you don't do the merit earning tasks, your progress will degrade weekly and you will have to work harder to advance up the merit reward ladder.

Because of the way merits decay every cycle, you basically need to earn about half the merits you need to reach rank n every cycle in order to maintain it.

Merits made during a cycle are halved every new cycle for 4 weeks, so for example, if you make 10k merits starting from 0 for cycle 1, you will begin cycle 2 with 5k merits, and you'll need another 5k to maintain rank 5.

If you do so, cycle 3 will begin with 2.5k from cycle 1 + another 2.5k from what you made during cycle 2, and will start cycle 3 again with 5k.

Hope this example is clear enough.

So grinding merits essentially becomes a full time job? At least to maintain any rank worthy of note with worthwhile benefits.

Welp, I'll give it a try for a few weeks, but its seems like PP may be more for already established players who are fairly set in terms of money and ships. I'm still trying to earn my way up to an Anaconda and such. I was hoping the bonuses would help to make money more quickly.

I have been playing since Beta, and I haven't any big ships and am far from rich. I keep my PP rating above 100 merits because that's all the time I have to invest with my busy RL. 50K a week is ok by me. Grinding sucks the fun out of anything by turning any game into boring work.
Remember: There is no endgame and those that become fixating on getting all the ships or becoming Midas are missing the point and lose interest.

I have a Death Birdy, a pimped out Vipey 3 and my pride and joy: a 56M Python named "Pogue Mahone".
When I get the itch to explore, I sell the Vulture and get a DBX or an Asp X.
I think the Cobra 4 is a great mining ship and sometimes I build a stealth DB Scout for smuggling/hunting Wanteds.

It sure takes time to stay at rank 5, whatever the way you do it. Otherwise, as Gully_Foyle said, don't focus on getting rich quickly, better focus on doing what you find fun, and try varying your activities when you get bored.

That's very kind of you. All I can say is thank you for being such a nice guy for donating me the 30 merits and saving me some time.
