How do you keep guests warm?

Title says it all, how do you keep guests warm as I have my zoo in a cold environment, and they complain about being cold 20% of the time. Is the only option to buy heaters? Or does cold and heat not really influence guests stay? Not sure how that mechanic of cold and heat work with guests. Any help is appreciated!

You can deploy heaters and coolers and they will alter their temperature for sure. Whether or not they affect their happiness, I don't know.

I build more coffee stands than other drink stands. Good for the bank too. Cold visitors like warm drinks. Hot visitors get thirsty faster. Both will help your profitability if you are strategic about your drink stands.

Beyond that, I don't bother to worry about it for any of the outdoor parts of the zoo. Though you can put heaters/coolers throughout your zoo along visitor paths, it doesn't influence much other than the thirstiness of the visitors so I don't see the point. That being said, I do heat/air condition (depending on biome of the zoo) all of my indoor areas. It just seems like the right thing to do.

I believe as well as heaters you'll find buildings regulate temperature just by being covered so make more indoor spaces is another good trick

This is quite true, buildings are warmer or cooler, as needed by the climate. They also protect from the rain and snow. With zoos that are in less-than-friendly climates it helps to have many indoor areas. In my desert, tundra and taiga zoos I enclose, at least partially, almost all of the viewing areas for a majority of the habitats. As well as making enclosed structures for food, beverage, shopping and exhibits (I usually combine those with a handful of exhibits and 1 to 3 shops all together).

If they hug the fences of heated habitats, they get enough heat from that. I used to put heaters on the paths, but since effect of temperature don't seem to reflect on me, I'll let them endure it.

I keep the restaurants heated. That is good for business.

As others have mentioned, use heaters to cover particularly cold spots and use construction to place roofs over your guests. Heatmaps will really help you identify areas of issue.

Hi Paul,

Just wondering if guests will actively seek these areas out or if they benefit just by stumbling upon them. Would help in maximizing profit and design.

  • Rain? Guests seek shelter?
  • Hot? Guests seek AC/shade?
  • Cold? Guests seek heat/shelter?

I look at it this way, if they're hot, they buy a lot of cold drinks. If they're cold, they buy a lot of warm drinks. If it rains, they buy umbrellas. $$$$$$$$
I've yet to see evidence of their comfort level reflected in their happiness. Then again I only have 79 hours in-game so far and may missed something.

Awesome, thanks for all of the advise, I wasn't sure if hot and cold influenced purchases so I will definitely build more hot drink stands.

Well, I had one guest saying/thing "I am glad I found a shelter". Didn't make a screenshot, but it's a true story.

A random Gulpee station close to the entrance. The customers are completely protected. There is a heater inside with the smallest radius possible, because it's for customers only :)

Did you find it increased sales for that shop? I'm wondering if by cranking the AC in one of my buildings in my desert zoo will increase coffee sales.

No, my sales are already through the top. That queue never ends, unless the vendor is on break.

No matter what you do, you do it for yourself. The visitors care in the first place for accessibility. I removed the Gulpee station, because it sucked. Here, this is better. It probably doesn't do anything for sales, but it gives less stress and it keeps them even warmer.

I too wonder what I can do to get better sales, but once the vendors are lvl 5, and there is continue a queue, what else can you do?

Add more drink shops, but not in the same place. It is actually better to spread them out then to put them side by side like what you've done here, because all of those thirsty people are coming from somewhere, so identify the places that are somewhere that do not have drink shops and add one. With how this game is coded, traditional food courts are counter productive and less profitable than individual shops spread more evenly (food + 2 drink shops in one place often makes sense in areas that get crowded even with no shops though, so if that's the case, it's a good thing.)

Currently I can't keep up with the Gulpee demand, that is why there are two. Also, this is a beginning zoo. I haven't researched other drinks yet. They really should allow us to carry knowledge from one zoo to the other.. Having to research over and over again, all the time is tiresome.

Totally fair point. My current zoo was started mainly to breed cheetahs for the challenge, but I've been growing it and building just to pass the time while the cheetahs do their thing and my entrance area had 3 drink shops, 2 food shops and all the gift shops before I ever got around to expanding beyond 2 cheetah and 1 nile monitor habitat. They were spread a little bit... you know, left side of path, right side of path, and straight ahead... LOL

Interesting discussion. I've been frustrated that I can't get my guests' "thirst" indicator to move out of the 50's. I didn't think that maybe the fact that the zoo is in Central America makes the people hotter and thirstier. And I suppose Street Fox Coffee isn't the best choice for beverage shops.
